On Saturday, May 21, 2016, officers from the London Police Service attended Argyle Mall, located at Dundas Street at Clarke Road, in relation to two vehicles with unattended children inside.
At 5:08 p.m., a citizen called police to report a child left alone in a vehicle in the parking lot. A nine-month-old child was found in the car and was found to be in good health. The father of the child was located in one of the stores within the plaza.
Another citizen called police at 5:17 p.m. in relation to two children left unattended in a vehicle elsewhere in the parking lot. When police got to the car, the mother was with her one-year-old and two-year-old children and they were in good health. She had gone to buy a few groceries.
It was determined that the children in both cases were left unattended approximately 10 minutes or less.
Children’s Aid Society were contacted in relation to both matters. No charges were laid.
The London Police Service is reminding citizens not to leave children unattended in vehicles. Not only does it not take long for heat to rise within a vehicle, but leaving children unattended increases the risk of potential abduction, among other safety concerns.
