Over the past two mornings the Guelph Police Service Traffic Unit has investigated two collisions involving vehicles striking pedestrians crossing the road at intersections staffed by adult school crossing guards. In both incidents the pedestrians suffered minor injuries.
Police would like to remind drivers that under the new legislation that commenced January 1, 2016 drivers must wait until both the pedestrian crossing the street and the School Crossing Guard have completely moved off the roadway before they can proceed. The maximum penalty for not doing so is $500 and three demerit points. Officers will be conducting targeted enforcement in the school crossing zones to ensure compliance with new rules.
