Children Are Robbed At Gunpoint – Two Teens Arrested – Names Released

Investigators with the York Regional Police Hold-Up Unit have charged two men following a robbery in the City of Vaughan.

On Tuesday, November 22, 2016, shortly after 8 a.m., York Regional Police received a 9-1-1 call advising that a robbery had just occurred at a residence on Park Ridge Drive in the City of Vaughan. When officers arrived the suspects had fled the scene.

The investigation revealed that shortly after 8 a.m., the homeowner, a 52-year-old man went out to his vehicle in the driveway with his boys who are 17 and 15 years old. They were approached by three men, two of which were armed with handguns. The suspects told the father to go back into the house with them, but he refused. A short struggle ensued and two suspects went into the garage and demanded wallets and mobile phones from the boys. The victims eventually complied and the suspects fled on foot.

The victims were not physically injured during this incident.

With the cooperation of witnesses, investigators were able to identify the suspects. Shortly after 3 p.m., two suspects were taken into custody in the City of Vaughan without incident.

Both accused were held in custody and will appearing in the Ontario Court of Justice in Newmarket for a bail hearing on November 23, 2016.

“The actions of our highly professional frontline officers and the quick follow-up by the dedicated investigators in our Hold-Up Unit led to these two arrests,” said Chief Eric Jolliffe. “As well, the immediate support from witnesses in the community was a critical component to the quick arrests and helping to ensure that York Region remains one of Canada’s Safest Communities.”

The investigation is ongoing.
