Child Dies After Being Hit By A Car

(TOWNSHIP OF PERTH EAST, ON) On Monday October 11, 2011, at approximately 5:45 p.m., Perth County OPP officers were dispatched to a collision between a car and pedestrian on Perth Line 72 west of Newton.

Investigation revealed that a privately hired school bus, being used for non school purposes was stopped on the south gravel shoulder of Perth Line 72 east of Perth Road 131. The bus was carrying families who had attended a family gathering. As one of the families was being dropped off across the road from their residence laneway, one of their children, a 7 year old boy bolted from in front of the bus and crossed the road. A small eastbound car carrying a Kitchener family, struck the boy in the east bound lane.

The boy sustained life threatening injuries and was rushed to the Listowel Memorial Hospital where shortly after arrival he died. The boy has been identified as Steven Kuepfer (7) of the Township of Perth East.

Perth Line 72 between Road 129 and Perth Road 131 was closed and is expected to remain closed until around 10 p.m. Perth County OPP officers with the assistance of West Region OPP Technical Traffic Investigators are continuing to investigate this collision.
