Chatham-Kent Police Daily News Release – June 25, 2015

The Chatham-Kent Police Service responded to 115 calls for service in the last 24 hours. Three people were arrested.

Woman Charged with Failing to Comply CK15017561

The Chatham-Kent police have arrested a woman for breaching her release conditions.

On June 16, 2015 just before 7:00 a.m. an off duty officer observed the woman known to him riding a bicycle on Richmond Street in Chatham. The officer later learned that the woman was bound by a condition not to attend within the Municipality of Chatham-Kent except for court appearances or medical appointments. The woman was not scheduled for court that date and meetings with legal counsel or medical appointments normally occur during normal business hours, so a warrant was issued for her arrest for the offence of failing to comply.

Around 10:40 p.m. last night, an officer on general patrol observed the woman riding a bicycle carrying a black backpack on Park Street in Chatham. Upon being searched incident to arrest, she was found to be in possession of bolt cutters, a wrench, screwdriver, box cutter and two pairs of snips. The 27-year-old London woman was additionally charged with being in possession of break-in instruments. She has been held pending a bail hearing.

Woman Charged with Break and Enter CK15018358

The Chatham-Kent police have arrested a woman in connection with a break and enter in Chatham.

On June 22, 2015 sometime between 12:00 p.m. and 1:30 p.m. a man and woman attended a building on Thames Street. The man entered an apartment through an unlocked window and stole a TV, tools and jewelry. The woman entered another apartment and stole a wooden stained wagon. The man and woman left the area together with the stolen property. Through investigation, police identified the man and woman responsible. The man was arrested later that night.

Just before 10:00 p.m. last night, officers located the woman on Degge Street and she was taken into custody. The 34-year-old woman of no fixed address has been charged with break and enter, theft under $5000 and two counts of being in possession of property obtained by a crime under $5000. She has been held pending a bail hearing.

Motor Vehicle Collisions

CK15018552 – Around 10:20 a.m. yesterday morning, emergency crews responded to a two vehicle collision on Grand Avenue West near Sandys Street in Chatham. One driver sustained minor injuries. Total damage was estimated at $15,000. A 31-year-old Chatham woman was charged with failing to obey a red light.

CK15018571 – At 1:00 p.m. yesterday afternoon, emergency crews responded to a two vehicle collision on Lark Street near Baldoon Road in Chatham. One driver sustained minor injuries. Total damage was estimated at $12,000. A 47-year-old Tupperville woman was charged with improper passing.

CK15018584 – Shortly after 4:00 p.m. yesterday afternoon, emergency crews responded to a two vehicle collision on Middle Line near Allison Line. One driver was transported to hospital for medical attention. Total damage was estimated at $20,000. A 73-year-old woman was charged with failing to yield the right of way.

Wildlife Management

As summer arrives, so do wild animals and their babies. The Chatham-Kent Police Service would like to remind citizens that should you have a wild animal (ie: raccoon, skunk, snake) on your property that will not wander away, please call a commercial pest control company for assistance.

OSPCA or police will not attend unless there is an immediate threat to human safety.
