The Chatham-Kent Police Service responded to 115 calls for service in the last 24 hours. Two people were arrested.
Suspicious Package in Chatham CK15022542
Just before 3:00 pm yesterday afternoon, police responded to the Judy LaMarsh building on William Street South in regards to a suspicious package. A female employee opened an envelope containing white powder. The woman attended the Chatham-Kent Health Alliance as a precaution.
The area was contained and shortly after 10:00 p.m. the OPP UCRT (Urban Chemical Response Team) arrived on scene to assist. Through investigation, they determined that the white powder was not suspicious and that there was no public safety concern.
The Chatham-Kent Police Criminal Investigations Section continues to investigate the circumstances surrounding the envelope being sent to the Judy LaMarsh building.
Sudden Death Investigation CK15022453
On Monday, July 27, 2015 around 4:00 p.m. police responded to the Kent Motel on Grand Avenue East in Chatham to assist the Coroner’s Office with a sudden death investigation involving an adult man.
A post-mortem was conducted yesterday in Windsor and the death has been deemed as not suspicious.
Man Arrested on Outstanding Warrant CK15022500
On Sunday, July 26, 2015 around 8:00 a.m. the man entered a residence in Chatham without permission and began assaulting another man known to him with a broom who was sleeping on the couch. The man fled the residence prior to police arrival. Attempts were made to locate the man, however when unsuccessful, a warrant was issued for his arrest for the offences of assault and assault with a weapon.
Yesterday morning, the 37-year-old Chatham man turned himself in to police headquarters. He was transported to the court house pending a bail hearing.
Man Charged with Uttering Threats CK15022580
Last night around 8:45 p.m. the building manager of an apartment on Baldoon Road in Chatham attended the man’s unit as he had received a noise complaint. When the man opened the door and was asked to turn down his music, he pushed the building manger and threatened him.
Just before 9:30 p.m. police attended the man’s residence and he was taken into custody. The 51-year-old man has been charged with assault and uttering threats. He has been released with conditions pending a future court date of August 19, 2015.
Break and Enter CK15022585
Sometime last night between 9:30 p.m. and 10:00 p.m. unknown suspect(s) entered an unlocked residence on Wellington Street East in Chatham. Once inside, the suspect(s) stole a PlayStation gaming system valued at $500.
