The Chatham-Kent Police Service responded to 79 calls for service in the last 24 hours. Nine people were arrested.
Man Charged with Using Counterfeit Money CK15022326
Yesterday afternoon around 1:30 p.m. the man attended Tim Horton’s on Lacroix Street in Chatham and ordered a beverage and donut. He attempted to pay with a $10 US bill. The cashier immediately identified the bill as being counterfeit and police were notified. Officers located the man at Tim Horton’s and he was taken into custody. Upon being searched incident to arrest, the man was also found to be in possession of methamphetamine.
The 30-year-old man of no fixed address has been charged with uttering counterfeit money, breach of probation and drug possession. He has been held pending a bail hearing.
Man Charged with Escape Lawful Custody CK15022345
Last week, the man was charged with committing an indecent act on Crystal Drive in Chatham. He was released with several conditions, including not to possess any pornographic material.
Last night, shortly after 5:00 p.m. an officer on general patrol observed the man riding his bicycle behind an abandoned building on Keil Drive in Chatham. As the officer approached him, the man threw a magazine on the ground. The officer observed the magazine to be pornographic in nature. As the officer placed the man under arrest, he fled on foot into a nearby wooded lot. Following a short foot chase, the man was taken into custody. Upon being searched incident to arrest, he was also found to be in possession of methamphetamine.
The 22-year-old Chatham man has been charged with failing to comply, escape lawful custody and drug possession. He has been held pending a bail hearing.
Two People Charged with Assault Causing Bodily Harm CK15022298
Yesterday morning around 3:00 a.m. an argument began outside the River Rock on King Street in Chatham. A man and woman assaulted another man, known to them, causing him to require medical attention at the Chatham-Kent Health Alliance. The pair fled the scene prior to police arrival. Both were located several hours later and taken into custody.
The 19-year-old Chatham woman was charged with assault causing bodily harm and released pending a future court date of August 19, 2015. The 22-year-old Chatham man was charged with assault causing bodily harm and released pending a future court date of August 21, 2015.
Man Charged with Assault CK15022358
Last night around 7:00 p.m. the man and his girlfriend began arguing at her residence in Merlin. The incident escalated into a physical altercation as the man assaulted her. The woman did not require medical attention.
The 20-year-old Chatham man has been charged with two counts of assault. He was released pending a future court date of August 14, 2015.
Man Charged with Theft CK15022229
On July 25, 2015 the man attended the LCBO on Marlborough Street in Blenheim and concealed a 60oz bottle of Bacardi Rum in his shorts. The man fled the store making no attempt to pay for the item. Through investigation, the man was identified and located yesterday by police.
Jamieson Brideau, 41 years, of Orchard Heights in Chatham was charged with theft under $5000 and possession of property obtained by a crime under $5000. He was released pending a future court date of August 26, 2015.
Stolen Trailer CK15022308
Sometime between Friday, July 24 at 5:00 p.m. and Sunday, July 26 at 9:00 a.m. unknown suspect(s) stole a white 1997 Jayco Hawk camping trailer from a residence on Prince Albert Road. The trailer is 24’ in length, full on camping supplies, not plated and valued at approximately $6000.
