Chatham-Kent Police Daily News Release – 27Nov2017

The Chatham-Kent Police Service responded to 128 calls for service in the last 24 hours. Six people were arrested.

Man and Woman Charged with Theft CK17045966

Yesterday at 1:15 p.m. the man and woman entered the Walmart in Chatham together through the main entrance doors. The man filled up a cart with items he had chosen from within the store and then walked towards the food department. He exited the store making no attempt to pay for the items in the cart. An officer, who happened to be in the security office at the time, observed the man on video surveillance and immediately approached him just outside the store. The man ran from police, but was caught moments later. Estimated value of stolen items: $800

The 50-year-old Tilbury man was arrested and charged with theft under $5000 and possession of property obtained by a crime under $5000. Further investigation revealed that he was also failing to comply with a condition of his probation order, of not attending any Walmart within the province of Ontario. Therefore, he was additionally arrested and charged with failing to comply. He was transported to Chatham-Kent Police Service Headquarters where he has been held for a bail hearing.

During that time, the woman was observed concealing merchandise into a personal bag she was carrying. Prior to leaving the store, she was approached by a security officer and police were called. Estimated value of stolen items: $30.

The 33-year-old Windsor woman was arrested and charged with theft under $5000 and possession of property obtained by a crime under $5000. She was transported to Chatham-Kent Police Service Headquarters where she has been held for a bail hearing.

Man Charged with Failing to Comply RM17003488

On November 13, 2017 the man was released from custody. One of his release conditions was to report to the police station in Chatham on a certain day and time.

The man failed to do this on the first day he was required to attend the station. Due to his whereabouts being unknown, a warrant was issued for his arrest.

Early this morning at 1:00 a.m. the 28-year-old man was observed in the area of Gray Street and West Street in Chatham by police. He was arrested on the warrant and charged with failing to comply.

He was then transported to Chatham-Kent Police Service Headquarters where he has been held for a bail hearing.

Male Youth Charged with Uttering Threats CK17045952

Yesterday at 11:00 a.m. the male youth was inside his residence in Chatham where his behavior was out-of-control and police were called.

As officers were speaking with him, he began threatening their lives. As a result, the 16-year-old Chatham male was arrested and charged with uttering threats. He was transported to Chatham-Kent Police Service Headquarters and later released with a future court date.
