Traffic Stop Leads to Impaired Charge
On Saturday, September 5, 2015 at approximately 7:45 pm, Chatham-Kent Police were dispatched to the area of Tasan Crescent in Chatham for a suspicious vehicle. Upon arrival, police located the vehicle and spoke to the driver. Police suspected that the driver had consumed alcohol and a roadside alcohol screening test was conducted. The test indicated that the driver had a blood alcohol content in excess of the legal limit. The driver was arrested and transported to Chatham-Kent Police Headquarters where further breath tests were conducted. The test results showed that the driver had more than twice the legal limit of alcohol in his body.
A 20-year-old Chatham man was charged with over 80 and was released with a future court date of September 21, 2015
Man Charged with Breaching Recognizance
On August 17, 2015, a man appeared before the courts and was placed on a number of conditions as a result of being charged with a number of offences. One of the conditions was that the man live at a specific address and advise police upon a change of address.
On Saturday, September 5, 2015, police attended the last known address of the man and learned that he hasn’t been residing there for two weeks. As a result, the 24-year-old man was located and arrested for breaching his recognizance. He was transported to Chatham-Kent Police Service where he was held in custody pending a bail hearing.
Break and Enter in Orford Township
On Friday, September 5, 2015 at approximately 10:30 am, police were called to a Kenesserie Road address for a break and enter that had occurred sometime in the last week. Police learned that unknown suspect(s) entered the house and removed approximately $6000 worth of property including paintings, die cast cars, a chainsaw and stereo equipment. The investigation is currently ongoing. Anyone with information is asked to contact Cst. Traffic Enforcement Conducted Throughout Municipality
During the past 24 hours, a number of traffic initiatives were conducted with road safety in mind. A RIDE check was conducted in Wallaceburg and Dresden with two HTA cautions issued. Seatbelt enforcement was conducted in Wallaceburg and five charges were laid. Police would like to remind motorists that the Labor Day weekend has historically been one involving serious crashes and impaired driving. Drivers are urged to be vigilant in watching for cyclists and pedestrians and if you choose to drink, don’t drive.
