Chatham-Kent Daily News Release – Sept 22, 2015

Industrial Accident CK15028717

Yesterday morning, emergency crews responded to an industrial accident involving farm equipment on Brook Line in Chatham Township.

A 70-year-old Chatham man sustained a head injury while working on a tomato harvester. He was transported to the Chatham-Kent Health Alliance via ambulance and later air lifted to a London hospital where he remains in stable condition.

The Ministry of Labour was contacted. They attended the scene and have taken over the investigation.

Driver Faces Multiple Charges CK15028744

At 1:10 p.m. yesterday, a traffic officer observed a Ford Explorer traveling on Richmond Street in Chatham and conducted a traffic stop to investigate the status of the license plates.

The officer learned that the driver was serving two active license suspensions. He also discovered that the license plates belonged on a different vehicle, the validation sticker had been tampered with, and that there was no insurance coverage on the vehicle.

Steven Bondy, 36 years, of Lorne Avenue in Chatham was charged with:

* Driving While Under Suspension (two counts)

* Using Plates Not Authorized for Vehicle

* Defacing Validation

* Driving Without Insurance

* Failing to Surrender Permit for the Motor Vehicle

The Ford Explorer was towed and impounded for seven days in accordance with Ontario’s Vehicle Impoundment Program.

The Chatham-Kent Police remind drivers that driving while under suspension, using improper plates, and defacing validation stickers are all arrestable offences under the Highway Traffic Act.

Stolen Truck CK15028707

Sometime between September 19 at midnight and September 21 at 6:00 a.m. unknown suspect(s) stole an unlocked white 1996 Chevrolet 350 truck from The Stone Men business on Ivan Street in Chatham. The truck has the company name printed on the doors and was last seen with Ontario license plates 143 4TZ. The truck is valued at $3000.

Motor Vehicle Collision CK15028706

Shortly after 7:00 a.m. yesterday morning, police responded to a two vehicle collision on Keil Drive South near Richmond Street in Chatham. No one was injured. Total damage was estimated at $15,000.

A 26-year-old Chatham man was charged with failing to afford a reasonable opportunity to avoid a collision while making a left turn.

Around 8:30 a.m. yesterday morning, police responded to a two vehicle collision on Water Street near Main Street in Ridgetown. No one was injured. Total damage was estimated at $6000.

A 20-year-old Belle River man was charged with failing to yield the right of way.
