Fender Bender Leads to Over 80
In the early morning hours of September 19, 2015, Chatham-Kent Police responded to a motor vehicle collision involving one vehicle rear-ending another stopped vehicle, at the intersection of Richmond and Bloomfield. There weren’t any injuries as a result of the collision, but when speaking to the at-fault driver, the investigating officer could detect a strong odour of an alcoholic beverage. A roadside breath demand resulted in a FAIL on the Approved Screening Device. The driver was arrested and transported to CKPS Headquarters for tests to be conducted by a Qualified Breath Technician. These tests resulted in the driver blowing double the legal limit for blood-alcohol concentration.
The 35 year old Charing Cross man was charged with Over 80, issued a 90 day licence suspension, and had his vehicle impounded. He was released from custody with a future court date, once he sobered up.
Not Given a Third Chance
On September 11, 2015, a Chatham man was released from Courts on a recognizance with several conditions. One condition was to sign-in to CKPS Headquarters every Saturday in person, between 8am – 4pm. Another one of his conditions was to obey a daily curfew between the hours of 9pm and 6am.
On September 19, 2015, the male was late for his weekly sign-in. He was called by an officer and he attended the station to sign in. He was cautioned on failing to comply with his recognizance, and advised that he would be arrested on the next slip up. On the same evening, leading into the early morning hours, the same man was observed on a bicycle by an officer.
The 36 year old Chatham man was arrested for Fail to Comply with Recognizance. He was processed and lodged, pending bail hearing.
