Chatham-Kent Daily News Release – October 9, 2015

Police Investigate Fatal Motor Vehicle Collision CK15030436

Shortly after 9:00 a.m. this morning, emergency crews responded to a single motor vehicle collision on Countryview Line between Centre Side Road and Lindsay Road.

A female was confirmed deceased at the scene. Her identity will be not be released until next of kin has been notified.

The road will be closed for several hours as investigators reconstruct the scene.

The Chatham-Kent Police Service Traffic Unit is currently investigating the collision. Anyone with information is urged to contact Constable Mike Pearce at 519-355-1092.

Fire Deemed Suspicious CK15030327

On October 6, 2015 around 11:30 p.m. emergency crews responded to a residential fire on Grand Avenue East in Chatham.

The residence is divided into four different apartments. No one was home in the unit where the fire started, however other tenants in the building were home. Luckily, no one was injured.

Property damage has been estimated at $30,000.

The Office of the Ontario Fire Marshall was contacted and attended the scene. They have since deemed the fire suspicious and are continuing to investigate the cause and origin.

Update: Fatal Motor Vehicle Collision CK15030436

As previously reported, shortly after 9:00 a.m. yesterday morning, emergency crews responded to a single motor vehicle collision on Countryview Line between Centre Side Road and Lindsay Road. The driver and lone occupant of the vehicle was pronounced deceased at the scene.

Preliminary investigation has revealed that the woman was driving her Hyundai Santa Fe eastbound on Countryview Line, when she left the roadway, struck a tree and came to rest in a ditch.

The woman has been identified as Stephanie HARDY, 33 years, of Chandler Street in Dresden.

Members of the Chatham-Kent Police Service offer their deepest condolences to the family and friends of Ms. Hardy.

Man Charged with Failing to Comply CK15030288

In May 2015, the man was released from custody with several conditions. One of those conditions stated that he was to reside at a specific address in Dover Township. In June 2015, the man entered into a Probation Order with a condition that he not change his address without obtaining consent from his Probation Officer.

On October 6, 2015, police received information that the man was not residing in Dover Township as per his conditions. Police confirmed that the man had moved to Chatham without permission.

Last night around 8:00 p.m. police located the man on St. Anthony Street in Chatham and he was arrested. The 30-year-old man has been charged with failing to comply and breach of probation. He has been held in custody pending a bail hearing.

Man Charged with Theft CK15030454

Yesterday afternoon, the man attended Walmart on St. Clair Street in Chatham and took possession of two packages of batteries and one roll of tape. The man exited the store without making any attempt to pay for the merchandise valued at $25.

Police were contacted and the man was taken into custody at a nearby business. Through investigation, the man was also found to be in possession of marijuana, methamphetamine, ecstasy and other drug paraphernalia.

The 25-year-old man of no fixed address has been charged with theft under $5000, possession of property obtained by a crime under $5000 and possession for the purposes of trafficking. He has been held pending a bail hearing.

Man Arrested on Outstanding Warrant CK15030476

In December 2014, a warrant was issued for the man as he failed to comply with conditions of his Probation Order.

Last night around 7:30 p.m. the man attended the Tilbury police station and turned himself in. The 38-year-old Wallaceburg man has been held in custody pending a bail hearing.
