Youth Charged with Robbery CK15032532
Last night around 8:20 p.m. a male youth entered Subway on Keil Drive in Chatham. The youth approached the counter with his face concealed and demanded money while brandishing a knife. The employee turned over an undisclosed amount of cash and the youth fled the area in a vehicle. The employee was not injured.
An observant citizen witnessed the youth driving away and provided police with a description of the car and licence plate. Through investigation, the youth was identified and arrested around 1:00 a.m. this morning.
The 17-year-old Chatham youth has been charged with robbery and being in possession of a weapon for a dangerous purpose. He has been held in custody pending a bail hearing.
Man Charged with Attempting to Escape Lawful Custody CK15032516
Around 2:30 p.m. yesterday afternoon while in police custody at the Chatham-Kent Courthouse, the man appeared to be in medical distress. He was transported via ambulance to the Chatham-Kent Health Alliance for medical attention. At 4:25 p.m. while in the Emergency Department, the man slipped out of his handcuffs and fled on foot. He was quickly apprehended and returned to his bed.
At 7:30 p.m. last night, the man was discharged from the hospital and transported to police headquarters where he was charged with attempt to escape lawful custody. The 19-year-old Raleigh Township man has been held in custody pending a bail hearing.
Reduce Impaired Driving Everywhere (RIDE) CK15032536
Last night, officers conducted a RIDE spot check on Kent Bridge Road.
65 motorists were stopped and five (5) road side tests were administered. One driver was issued a 3-day license suspension and ticket for failing to surrender her insurance card. Her vehicle was towed from the roadway.
Break and Enter in Chatham CK15032522
Sometime between October 7th and October 29th unknown suspect(s) forced their way into the Masonic Lodge on Wellington Street East. Once inside, the suspect(s) cut a small quantity of copper tubing from the bathroom causing approximately $300 damage.

Fraud Warning CK15032411
This week, an elderly woman reported that she had been the victim of a telephone scam. On three separate occasions, men purporting to be from the Canada Revenue Agency (CRA) instructed the woman to send money through Western Union or she would be arrested for failing to pay back taxes. The 70-year-old woman was defrauded from a large sum of money.
