Chatham-Kent Daily News Release – November 26, 2015

Fatal Motor Vehicle Collision CK15035145

Last night, shortly after 7:00 p.m. emergency crews responded to a collision involving a GMC Acadia and cyclist on Bloomfield Road between Riverview Line and Richmond Street.

Preliminary investigation revealed that the driver of the Acadia was travelling southbound on Bloomfield Road when she struck the cyclist.

The cyclist, an 18-year-old Chatham man, was transported via ambulance to the Chatham-Kent Health Alliance where he succumbed to his injuries.

The driver of the Acadia, a 42-year-old Tilbury woman was not physically injured.

The Chatham-Kent Police Service Traffic Unit is investigating the collision. Anyone with information is asked to contact Constable Mike Pearce at 519-355-1092.

Man Charged with Theft and Assault CK15035114

Yesterday afternoon, the man attended Sobeys on Park Avenue in Chatham. He was observed eating a banana in the produce area then drinking a small chocolate milk in the dairy section. An employee approached the man and asked him to leave. The man became irate and threw a container of Gain laundry detergent causing it to break open on the floor. As the man was being escorted out of the store, he spat at the employee.

Police were notified and the man was arrested. The 36-year-old man of no fixed address has been charged with theft under $5000, mischief under $5000 and assault. The man was also on the Wanted List for two counts of breach of probation. He has been held in custody pending a bail hearing.

Man Charged with Domestic Related Offences CK15035157

Last night, police responded to a domestic disturbance at a residence in Chatham. A woman reported that her common-law threw hot water and rubbing alcohol at her during a verbal argument. The woman further disclosed a previous incident of domestic abuse.

The 22-year-old Chatham man has been charged with three counts of assault with a weapon. He has been held in custody pending a bail hearing.

Stolen Vehicle in Chatham CK15035083

Sometime early Wednesday morning between 12:30 a.m. and 8:30 a.m. unknown suspect(s) stole a locked dark grey 1999 GMC Sierra pick-up truck from a residence on Crerar Drive. The truck was last seen with Ontario license plates AA74 505 and was equipped with an arctic snow plow on the front.
