The Chatham-Kent Police Service responded to 88 calls for service in the last 24 hours. Two people were arrested.
Man Charged with Weapon Offences CK15035027
Yesterday afternoon, police responded to a residence on Wallace Street in Wallaceburg in regards to an assault. Through investigation, police received information that the suspect, a local man, had fled the area in a blue Dodge Charger. Officers located the vehicle travelling on Margaret Avenue and a traffic stop was initiated. The man was located in the back seat and observed to be clearly concealing something in his right hand. Upon being asked to show the officer his hands, the man threw the object on the floor of the vehicle.
A search of the man and the vehicle revealed that he was in possession of a flick knife, pellet gun fashioned to be a replica of a Glock handgun and paintball gun fashioned to be a replica of a Mac-10 style machine gun.
Police further received information that the man was currently bound by numerous conditions. The 19-year-old Wallaceburg man was arrested and charged with five weapon related offences and three counts of Breach of Probation. He has been held in custody pending a bail hearing.
Bank Receives Threat CK15035048
Around 5:00 p.m. last night, the TD Canada Trust Bank on St. Clair Street in Chatham received an anonymous phone call from a man threatening to cause harm to those at the bank. Employees and customers were quickly evacuated and the bank closed their doors for the reminder of the night. No one was injured.
The incident remains under investigation by the Chatham-Kent Police Service Major Crime Unit. Theft from Sears CK15035033
Yesterday afternoon, police responded to the Downtown Chatham Centre on King Street West. Store security observed the man stealing about $150 worth of baby items. As the Loss Prevention Officer attempted to apprehend the man, he dropped the merchandise and fled on foot.
