Chatham-Kent Daily News Release – December 14, 2015

The Chatham-Kent Police Service responded to 73 calls for service in the last 24 hours. Four people were arrested.

Man Charged with Obstruct Police CK15036827

On November 2, 2015 the man was released from custody with several conditions. One of those conditions stated that he was to obey a daily curfew of 9:00 p.m. to 6:00 a.m.

Around 12:55 a.m. this morning, police responded to the area of King Street West near Phyllis Avenue in Chatham in regards to a suspicious person. Officers located the man on Phyllis Avenue south of Tecumseh Road. Upon being approached by police, the man dropped a small plastic baggie on the grass boulevard and falsely identified himself to the officer. Through investigation, police learned his real identity and seized the baggie containing methamphetamine.

The 26-year-old Chatham man was arrested and charged with obstruct police, fail to comply and drug possession. He has been held in custody pending a bail hearing.

Man Charged with Uttering Threats CK15036804

Yesterday, the man became involved in a verbal argument with his ex-girlfriend. During this discussion, the man threatened the woman. About an hour and a half later, police received information that he had also threatened another ex-girlfriend on this same date.

The 24-year-old Chatham man has been charged with two counts of uttering threats. He has been held in custody pending a bail hearing.

Youth Charged Following Disturbance in Chatham CK15036801

Last night, officers responded to a residence in regards to a disturbance. The youth damaged the fridge and threw a chair causing a hole in the drywall. The youth then grabbed a sledgehammer and began uttering threats. No one was injured.

The 13-year-old Chatham youth has been charged with mischief under $5000, possession of a weapon for a dangerous purpose and two counts of uttering threats. He has been held in custody pending a bail hearing.

Reduce Impaired Driving Everywhere (RIDE) CK15036818

Last night, officers conducted a RIDE spot check on James Street in Wallaceburg.

A total of 30 vehicles were stopped. No infractions were observed.

Break and Enter CK15036759

Sometime Sunday morning around 4:00 a.m. unknown suspect(s) forced their way into the Speed-D-Mart on Bloomfield Road in Chatham. The suspect(s) stole about $25,000 worth of assorted cigarettes and lottery tickets. Damage was estimated at $10,000.
