Social Media Helps Identify Suspect CK15023617

Yesterday afternoon around 2:30 p.m. a man attended the LCBO on Wellington Street in Chatham and stole two 60oz bottles of rum valued at $120.

Through the use of social media, the man was identified and taken into custody shortly after 4:00 p.m. The 48-year-old Chatham man was charged with theft under $5000. He was released pending a future court date of August 25, 2015.

Reduce Impaired Driving Everywhere (RIDE)

Last night, officers conducted RIDE spot checks in Tilbury, Wallaceburg, Blenheim and Chatham. A total of 144 vehicles were stopped with no infractions observed.

Commercial Motor Vehicle Enforcement Initiative

Yesterday, officers from the Chatham-Kent Police Services Traffic Unit and Ministry of Transportation’s Commercial Motor Vehicle Enforcement Unit participated in a Joint Forces Operation, conducting safety inspections on commercial motor vehicles that were operating throughout the Blenheim area. Officers inspected a total of 27 commercial vehicles, their loads and the driver’s qualifications and documentation. 11 vehicles were taken out of service for having serious safety infractions and 3 sets of licences plates were seized. A total of 25 charges were laid.

The Chatham-Kent Police Service would like to remind all commercial motor vehicle operators that safety inspections will continue to be conducted on a regular basis in an on-going effort to keep our Chatham-Kent roadways safe for all road users.

Theft in Tilbury CK15022632

Sometime between July 20 and July 29, unknown suspect(s) cut through a fence at First Solar Inc on Industrial Road and removed 8 solar panels. The stolen panels are thin, measuring 4’x2’ and are only used for solar farms. Each weighs 27lbs. Total value of the theft has been estimated at $1600. Damage to the property was approximately $400.

Fraud Warning CK15022757

On July 30, 2015, two men attended a residence in Wallaceburg and offered to do home repairs for cash. The elderly woman agreed and placed a quantity of cash on the table to pay them. As one of the men walked around the house outside with the woman to talk about the repairs, the other man entered the home and stole the cash on the table and a safe containing a large sum of money and personal documents. The men stated they need to get supplies and would return in 20 minutes, however they never did.

The first man was white, 5’4”, with light brown curly hair. The second man was white, 5’8” with short dark brown hair. Both men appeared to be 30-40 years of age. They were driving a black pick-up truck.
