Chatham-Kent Daily News Release – August 6, 2015

Youth Charged with Robbery CK15023461

Yesterday morning around 12:55 a.m. a lone male with his face covered entered the Mac’s Milk on McNaughton Avenue West. While brandishing a knife, he demanded cash and cigarettes. The man fled the store with an undisclosed amount of cash and cigarettes. He was last seen leaving the area in a southbound direction. Officers flooded the area, however were unable to locate the suspect. The store employee was not injured.

Through investigation, police identified the suspect and he was taken into custody just before 10:00 a.m.

The 17-year-old Chatham youth has been charged with robbery, wearing a disguise with intent and breach of probation by failing to comply with his daily curfew. He has been held in custody pending a bail hearing.

Operation Dry Water

This past holiday weekend, the Chatham-Kent Police Marine Unit were out in full force as part of Operation Dry Water. Throughout the four days, officers patrolled the Chenal Ecarte, Sydenham River, Thames River and Rondeau Bay.

– Approximately 70 vessels were stopped and checked for alcohol and safety related equipment infractions

– 17 boaters were issued warnings for minor offences such as expired flares and inoperable water tight flashlights

– 2 boaters were charged with not having enough life jackets on board

– 1 boater was charged with failing to provide his Pleasure Craft Operators Card

– 2 vessels were located and the operators required police assistance with getting back to shore safely

The Chatham-Kent Police Service would like to thank everyone on the waterways as there were no alcohol related issues reported.

Motor Vehicle Collision CK15023485

Yesterday morning around 10:20 a.m. emergency crews responded to a three vehicle collision on Hyslop Street near Park Avenue East in Chatham involving a Pontiac G5 car, Dodge Avenger and marked OPP cruiser. No one was injured. Total damage was estimated at $30,000.

A 44-year-old Chatham woman was charged with making a turn not in safety.

Break and Enter in Dover Township CK15023572

Sometime over the past three days, unknown suspect(s) entered a residence on Winterline Road. Once inside, the suspect(s) stole a 32” Samsung smart TV, iPad Mini, ACER laptop and set of speakers. Total valued of the theft is estimated at $3000.
