Chatham-Kent Daily News Release – 30Nov2016

The Chatham-Kent Police Service responded to 133 calls for service in the last 24 hours. Four people were arrested.

Pair Charged with Breaching their Release Conditions CK16040570 / CK16040573

Yesterday morning, police responded to a disturbance between a man and woman in a room at a local hotel in Chatham. Upon police arrival, the man answered the door and told the officers that the woman had already left. Officers found the woman hiding under the bed in the room.

Through investigation, police learned that they were both on conditions not to communicate with each other.

The 31-year-old Chatham man was arrested and charged with failing to comply and breach of probation. The 37-year-old Chatham woman was arrested and charged with failing to comply. Both were transported to the court house pending a bail hearing.

Man Charged with Domestic Related Offences CK16040564

On November 23, 2016 the man attended his ex-girlfriend’s residence in Chatham even though he was on conditions not to associate with her. The man fled the area prior to police arrival.

Through investigation, the woman disclosed previous incidents of domestic violence during their common-law relationship and a warrant was issued for his arrest.

Yesterday morning, the man was arrested in London and transported back to Chatham-Kent. The 45-year-old London man has been charged with several domestic related offences. He has been held in custody pending a bail hearing.

Youth Charged with Assault Peace Officer CK16040584

Yesterday afternoon, police responded to a family dispute at a residence in Chatham. The female youth was asked to leave the home and trespassed from the property. Upon leaving, she became very belligerent towards to the officers.

A few minutes later, she returned to the area and continued with her behaviour by insulting the officers with words and gestures. She was again warned regarding her verbally abusive behaviour and asked to leave.

She failed to comply and was arrested for breaching the peace. Upon being taken into custody, she struggled with the officers and kicked one of them in the leg.

While at police headquarters, her behaviour continued and she damaged a cell door.

The 16-year-old Chatham youth has been charged with assaulting a peace officer and mischief under $5000. She has been held in custody pending a bail hearing.

Motor Vehicle Collisions

CK16040640 – Last night, police responded to a two vehicle collision on Dufferin Avenue near Agnes Street in Wallaceburg.

No one was injured. Total damage was estimated at $15,000.

A 24-year-old Wallaceburg man was charged with making a left turn while failing to afford reasonable opportunity to avoid a collision.

CK16040643 – Last night, police responded to a two vehicle collision on Woods Street near Grand Avenue West in Chatham.

No one was injured. Total damage was estimated at $3000.

A 28-year-old Chatham woman was charged with making a left turn while failing to afford reasonable opportunity to avoid a collision.

CK16040654 – Last night, police responded to a collision on Elm Street near Prospect Street in Tilbury.

No one was injured. Total damage was estimated at $7000.

An 89-year-old Tilbury man struck a parked vehicle and was charged with careless driving.
