The Chatham-Kent Police Service responded to 153 calls for service in the last 24 hours. Seven people were arrested. Three of the seven people were arrested on outstanding warrants.
Man and Woman Charged with Drug Possession CK16019821
Last night around 9:30 p.m. police attended the area of Mountford Street near Talbot Street in Blenheim in regards to a suspicious vehicle. Police located the vehicle and through investigation learned the man and woman were in possession of methamphetamine.
Jason Burchiel and Shannon O’Shea, both 28 years, from Queens Line in Chatham were charged with drug possession. They were released pending a future court date of July 21, 2016.
Woman Charged with Theft CK16019805
Last night at 8:00 p.m. police located the woman in the area of Park Street and St. George Street in Chatham and she was arrested on an outstanding warrant for two counts of failing to comply.
Through investigation, Vanessa Vandeven, 26 years, of Baldoon Road in Chatham was additionally charged with theft under $5000 and possession of property obtained by a crime under $5000 in connection with a shoplifting incident at Sobeys in Blenheim. She was released pending a future court date of July 8, 2016.
Man Charged with Assault CK16019724
Yesterday morning, a verbal argument began between the man and his wife. The argument escalated into a physical altercation as the man began assaulting the woman. The family dog jumped on the man and the woman was able to escape and call 911.
The 42-year-old Chatham man was arrested and charged with assault. He was transported to the courthouse pending a bail hearing.
Break and Enter in Chatham CK16019721
Sometime between June 28 at 12:00 p.m. and June 29 at 10:00 a.m. unknown suspect(s) forced their way into the Spirit and Life Centre garage on Wellington Street in Chatham causing about $50 damage. Once inside, the suspect(s) stole various gardening equipment valued at approximately $600.

Neighbour Confronts Thief in Chatham CK16019786
Yesterday afternoon, a resident on Foster Street observed the man stealing a push lawnmower and weed whacker from his neighbour’s garden shed on Scane Street. He confronted the man as he pushed the stolen items down St. Patrick Street. The items were returned to the homeowner who advised police he didn’t want to pursue charges against the 31-year-old Chatham man.
The Chatham-Kent Police would like to commend the neighbour for his quick actions that ultimately resulted in the thief being identified and the stolen property being returned to its rightful owner.
