Chatham-Kent Daily News Release – 30July2016

The Chatham-Kent Police Service responded to 169 calls for service in the last 24 hours. Two people were arrested.

Crime Stoppers Tip Leads To Arrest – CK16023913

On July 29th, 2016, at approximately 1230hrs, Chatham-Kent Police received a Crime Stoppers Tip which resulted in an investigation regarding the possession of a stolen ATV. Police attended an address in Wallaceburg and located a male party painting the ATV and removing several parts in an attempt to disguise the stolen property. The male party was arrested and transported to Chatham-Kent Police Service Headquarters to be held in custody pending a bail hearing.

Vehicle vs. Cyclist – Motor Vehicle Collision – CK16023945

On July 29th, 2016, at approximately 1530hrs, Chatham-Kent Police responded to a Motor Vehicle Collision involving a motor vehicle and a young female cyclist. The collision took place at the intersection of Sandy Street and Sudbury Drive, in Chatham.

The cyclist was travelling southbound on the sidewalk on Sandy Street and crossed the street at Sudbury Drive. At this point a motor vehicle travelling northbound on Sandy Street turned eastbound onto Sudbury Drive and struck the cyclist. The young female cyclist was transported by EMS to Chatham-Kent Health Alliance where she was treated for minor injuries. A 21 yr. old Dresden man is charged with Turn not in Safety, contrary to Section 142(1) of the Highway Traffic Act.

Vehicle vs. Cyclist – Motor Vehicle Collision – CK16023998

On July 29th, 2016, at approximately 2215hrs, Chatham-Kent Police responded to a Motor Vehicle Collision involving a motor vehicle and a male cyclist. The collision took place in the area of Base Line and Union Line.

The cyclist, a 16 yr. old resident of Dresden, was travelling on the roadway when he was struck by a motor vehicle from behind. The cyclist was transported by EMS to Chatham-Kent Health Alliance and was treated for serious but non-life threatening injuries. The driver of the motor vehicle was not charged.

In total, Police responded to 12 motor vehicle collisions in the past 24 hours. Motorists are reminded to be extra cautious when dealing with heavy rain and reduced visibility.

Residential Fire in Chatham – CK16024001

On July 29th, 2016, at approximately 2215hrs, Chatham-Kent Police responded to a residential fire on Colborne Street. The damaged is estimated at $60,000 and the cause of the fire remains under investigation at this time.
