Chatham-Kent Daily News Release – 27June2016

The Chatham-Kent Police Service responded to 145 calls for service in the last 24 hours. Seven people were arrested.

Man Charged with Obstruct Police CK16023573

Last night around 11:15 p.m. police responded to the area of the overpass on Lacroix Street in regards to two suspicious people riding bikes on the railroad property. Officers located the pair on the west side of the Via Rail station. The woman stopped however the man failed to comply with the officers’ commands. The man actively resisted arrest and tried to escape by pulling away. During the arrest, one officer was injured. He was treated and released at the Chatham-Kent Health Alliance.

Both were charged with trespassing. Ronald Vandeven, 23 years, of Park Avenue East in Chatham was additionally charged with obstruct police. He was released pending a future court date of August 22, 2016.

Man Charged with Failing to Comply CK16023476

On March 29, 2016 the man was released from custody with several conditions. One of those conditions stated that he was not to contact or communicate with a specific Blenheim woman.

Yesterday morning, police received information that the man was in the woman’s home. The man fled prior to police arrival, however he was located about an hour later walking on McGeorge Street.

The 23-year-old Blenheim man was arrested and charged with failing to comply. He was transported to the court house pending a bail hearing.

Man Charged with Fraud CK16022402

On July 15, 2016 the man attended a Chatham residence and spoke with the homeowner regarding her vehicle that was parked in the driveway. The man offered to sell her parts and complete work on her car. The woman gave the man half the money up front the complete the work. He returned about an hour later stating that he needed more money to complete the repairs, to which the woman paid him. Later that night, the man again asked for more money from the woman, however this time she declined his request and police were contacted.

The man fraudulently obtained $312 from the 56-year-old woman and no work was ever done on her car. Through investigation, police identified the man responsible.

The 36-year-old Chatham man was arrested yesterday and charged with three counts of fraud under $5000. He was transported to the court house pending a bail hearing.

Woman Charged with Assault CK16023499

Yesterday afternoon, police responded to a business on Adelaide Street South in Chatham in regards to an assault complaint. The woman assaulted an employee and upon being taken into custody, kicked the officer and tried to punch him.

The 33-year-old Chatham woman was charged with assault. She was released pending a future court date of August 16, 2016. No one was injured during the incident.

Man Charged with Theft CK16023558

Last night around 5:30 p.m. the man entered Chatham-Kent Pawnbrokers and Liquidators on King Street West in Chatham and stole a black sub-woofer valued at approximately $300. Police were notified and his physical descriptors were obtained from store security video.

Shortly after 11:00 p.m. an officer on general patrol observed the man riding a bicycle on Queen Street. The 25-year-old Chatham man was arrested and charged with theft under $5000, possession of property obtained by a crime under $5000, breach of probation and failing to comply. He has been held in custody pending a bail hearing.

Youth Deferred to Local Diversion Program CK16023360

On July 24, 2016 the suspect attended Shoppers Drug Mart in Blenheim and stole a micro SD memory card. A surveillance photo was released yesterday morning requesting the public’s help in identifying him as police believed he was an adult. Within a short period of time, he was identified as a local youth through a Crime Stoppers tip.

The 15-year-old Blenheim teen has been deferred to a local Diversion Program through Chatham-Kent Restorative Justice. The stolen SD card was recovered and returned to the store.

Motor Vehicle Collision CK16023585

At 12:30 a.m. this morning, police responded to a single motor vehicle on Victoria Street between Mary Street and William Street in Thamesville. The vehicle left the roadway and struck a hydro pole.

Luckily, the 17-year-old Thamesville female driver was not injured. Total damage was estimated at $8000. No charges were laid.
