Police Execute Search Warrant in Chatham CK16011113
Last night, members of the Chatham-Kent Police Intelligence Section, with the assistance of the Critical Incident Response Team, executed a Controlled Drugs and Substances Act warrant at a residence on West Street.
Fentanyl residue, small amount of hydromorphone, packaging material and a digital scale were all seized. Officers also recovered a stolen mountain bike inside the residence.
A 28-year-old man and 26-year-old woman, both from Chatham, were arrested and charged with two counts of drug possession and possession of property obtained by a crime under $5000. The woman was released pending a future court date of May 12, 2016. The man was additionally charged with three counts of failing to comply with his release conditions. Through investigation, officers further learned that the man was also wanted on a surety relief warrant. He has been held in custody pending a bail hearing.
Man Arrested from Wanted List CK16011023
On July 8, 2015 the man was released from custody for the offences of assault and uttering threats. On March 29, 2016 the man failed to attend court and a warrant was issued for his arrest.
Yesterday morning, the 27-year-old Chatham man turned himself in to police headquarters. He was transported to the courthouse pending a bail hearing.
Man Charged with Assault CK16011104
Yesterday afternoon, the man observed his ex-common-law walking on Center Street in Chatham. He began yelling inappropriate names and then crossed the road and confronted her. As the woman tried to walk away, he grabbed her hair. The woman was able to break free and contact police.
The 28-year-old Chatham man was arrested and charged with assault. He was released pending a future court date of May 13, 2016.
Man Charged with Failing to Comply CK16011137
On January 14, 2016 the man was released from custody with several conditions. One of those conditions stated that he was to abide by a daily curfew of 9:00 p.m. to 7:00 a.m.
Last night around 10:30 p.m. an officer on general patrol stopped two cyclists riding on Grand Avenue East in Chatham without proper lighting. Through investigation, the officer learned the man was breaching his curfew.
The 42-year-old Chatham man was arrested and charged with failing to comply. He has been held in custody pending a bail hearing.
Motor Vehicle Collision CK16011092
Yesterday afternoon around 3:50 p.m. police responded to a two vehicle collision on Grand Avenue East near Michener Road in Chatham.
Minor injuries were reported. Total damage was estimated at $7500.
A 69-year-old Leamington man was charged with careless driving.
Fraud Warning CK16010147
Earlier this month, a 69-year-old Blenheim man reported to police that he had been the victim of a telephone and internet scam. In July 2015, the victim received a telephone call from an unknown man purporting to be from Microsoft Security offering to sell him antivirus software. The victim agreed and gave the man remote access to his computer, which included financial access to his bank and credit card information. Between July 2015 and April 2016, the victim lost $1600.
The Chatham-Kent Police Service would like to remind everyone that personal or financial information should never be provided to a stranger over the phone or unsolicited source. Also, please refrain from giving anyone remote access to your computer until you’ve confirmed their legitimacy.
