Pair Charged Following Disturbance in Chatham CK16007158 / CK16007162
Around 1:50 a.m. this morning, police responded to a disturbance in an apartment building in Chatham. Through investigation, police learned that the man and woman were consuming alcohol with friends in an apartment. As the woman returned to her apartment an altercation began between her and the man. The woman grabbed a mirror and struck the man in the head shattering glass all over the floor in the hallway.
The 34-year-old Chatham woman was arrested and charged with assault with a weapon and facilitating a breach as police further learned that the man was on conditions not to communicate with her.
The 35-year-old Chatham man was also arrested for breaching his release conditions. He was charged with three counts of failing to comply.
Both the man and woman have been held in custody pending a bail hearing.
Man Charged with Theft CK16007080
Yesterday morning, police attended Shoppers Drug Mart on Queen Street in Chatham in regards to a shoplifting complaint. The man grabbed a Gillette Fusion razor kit and Gillette Fusion Proshield blades. He exited the store making no attempt to pay for the items valued at about $77. Officers were given the man’s physical description and he was arrested a short time later.
Through investigation, police further learned that the man was currently bound by conditions not to attend that specific location or any Shoppers Drug Mart in Chatham-Kent due to incidents of a similar nature earlier in the month.
The 20-year-old Chatham man was charged with theft under $5000, possession of stolen property obtained by a crime under $5000 and two counts of failing to comply. He was transported to the court house pending a bail hearing.
Traffic Stop Leads to Several Domestic Related Offences CK16007086
Yesterday afternoon around 12:30 p.m. an officer on general patrol initiated a traffic stop on Queens Line following a traffic complaint about the vehicle swerving all over the roadway. As soon as the vehicle came to a complete stop, a woman exited the vehicle and began yelling for help. The woman took cover by the officer’s cruiser. As the man exited the vehicle in an aggressive manner towards the officer he was taken into custody for everyone’s safety.
Through investigation, police learned that the woman had been assaulted by the man earlier in the day and held in the car by her hair. The man also threatened the woman with a knife. The woman further disclosed that this was not the first time that she had been the victim of domestic violence as he’d assaulted her before and smashed her cell phone. The man was also suspended from driving due to unpaid fines.
The 37-year-old Chatham man has been charged with four counts of assault, two counts of failing to comply with release conditions, forcible confinement, assault with a weapon, uttering threats, driving while under suspension and mischief under $5000. He has been held in custody pending a bail hearing.
Break and Enter in Chatham CK16007117
Sometime yesterday between 5:30 a.m. and 6:00 p.m. unknown suspect(s) forced their way into a residence on Wellington Street East causing approximately $150 damage. Once inside, the suspect(s) stole a black laptop valued at $500 and an unknown amount of change.

Break and Enter in Chatham CK16007066
Sometime late Tuesday night or early Wednesday morning, unknown suspect(s) forced their way into MP Surplus on Queen Street. Various items including a flat screen TV and cash were stolen.
