The Chatham-Kent Police Service responded to 91 calls for service in the last 24 hours. Six people were arrested.
Wallaceburg Woman Charged with Theft CK17006322
Last night just after 10:00 p.m. the woman was inside the Real Canadian Superstore located at 791 St. Clair Street in Chatham. She was observed filling up a shopping cart with a variety of merchandise valued at $1400. The woman walked passed the cashiers, making no attempt to pay for the merchandise and left the store.
When a store employee approached the woman outside of the store, she ran to her car and drove away, leaving the cart full of merchandise behind. The store employee obtained the license plate number of the vehicle and Police were called. Through investigation, police learned the woman’s name and address.
Heather Adam, 33 years, of Dufferin Avenue in Wallaceburg was arrested and charged with theft under $5000 and possession of property obtained by a crime under $5000. She was released with a court date of March 10, 2017.
Chatham Woman Charged with Assault Police CK17006334
This morning around 5:00 a.m. the woman booked a room at a Chatham hotel, however, she remained within the lobby yelling and crying for a long period of time. Due to concerns for her well-being, hotel staff called the police. When police arrived, the woman started shouting obscenities at the officers while she was lying on the ground. Police also became concerned for the woman’s safety as she continued to scream very loudly. At that point they decided to call for an ambulance to attend. This angered the woman and she started assaulting the officers. Once they gained control of the woman, she was arrested and transported to the police station. No injuries have been reported.
The 42-year-old Chatham woman is being charged with causing a disturbance and two counts of assault police. She has been held in custody pending a bail hearing.
Ridgetown Man Charged with Failing to Comply CK17006331
In March, 2014 the man was arrested and charged with assault and failing to comply. One of the conditions of the man’s release was to remain inside his residence daily between the hours of 11:00 p.m. and 6:00 a.m.
Early this morning at approximately 3:30 a.m., while on routine patrol, an officer initiated a traffic stop in the area of Turin Line at Orford Road. The man was a passenger in this vehicle, therefore, not abiding by his curfew condition.
The 23-year-old Ridgetown man was arrested and charged with failing to comply. He has been held in custody pending a bail hearing.
