Chatham-Kent Daily News Release – 23Feb2017

The Chatham-Kent Police Service responded to 133 calls for service in the last 24 hours. Three of the four people were arrested on warrants.

Update on Robbery in Chatham CK17006088

As previously released, on Tuesday, February 21, 2017 just after 11:00 p.m. an unknown suspect entered Charlie’s Variety Store located at 310 Park Avenue East in Chatham. The suspect demanded cash from the employee while holding a weapon in his hand. A physical altercation ensued during the exchange of money and the employee suffered a cut to his arm which required surgery. The suspect fled the area and police were called.

The suspect has been identified as Lorne Brown, 33 years, of no fixed address. There is a warrant for his arrest for the following offences: disguise with intent, possession of a weapon for dangerous purpose and robbery.

Woman Charged with Theft CK17006205

In March, 2016 the woman was released from custody for the offences of failing to comply and theft under $5000. One of the conditions of her release was not to attend the Real Canadian Superstore at 791 St. Clair Street North in Chatham.

Last night around 10:00 p.m. the woman was observed by a store employee leaving the Real Canadian Superstore making no attempts to pay for the items she had concealed inside her purse. Police were called and located the woman in the parking lot. She was arrested for failing to comply and theft under $5000. The stolen items, valued at approximately $100, as well as drugs were located on the woman as a search was conducted incident to arrest. Through investigation, police learned the woman also had warrants out for her arrest. She was transported to the police station.

The 35-year-old, Sarnia woman has been charged with theft under $5000, possession of property obtained by a crime under $5000, failing to comply and possession of drugs. She has been held in custody pending a bail hearing.

On Saturday, May 13, 2017 a fitness challenge between the Chatham-Kent Police Service, Chatham-Kent O.P.P., Chatham-Kent E.M.S. and Chatham-Kent Fire & Emergency Services will begin at 9:00 a.m. The event is taking place at the St. Clair College in Chatham.

This event will highlight the fitness demands of our Counties brave men and women who serve as Law Enforcement Officers, Firefighters, and EMS. Teams of 5 will go head-to-head in 5 grueling “job specific” challenges.

All funds raised will go to support Chatham-Kent Victim Services and National Service Dogs.
