Chatham-Kent Daily News Release – 22Nov2016

The Chatham-Kent Police Service responded to 123 calls for service in the last 24 hours. Four people were arrested.

Man Charged with Break and Enter CK16039721

Last night around 8:00 p.m. the man forced his way into his neighbour’s home in Wheatley. The homeowner confronted the man and a struggle ensued. During the scuffle, the man bit the homeowner’s finger. The homeowner’s wife ran across the street for help and two other neighbours came over to render assistance. Together, they were able to hold the man in a closet until police arrived.

Both the homeowner and man were transported to the Chatham-Kent Health Alliance for medical attention.

The 41-year-old Wheatley man has been arrested and charged with break and enter and assault. He has been held in custody pending a bail hearing.

Man Charged with Theft CK16039702

Yesterday around 5:30 p.m. the man attended Shoppers Drug Mart on St. Clair Street in Chatham. While in the store, he concealed a Bell and Howell Dash Cam valued at $50 and a Dr. Ho back massager valued at $120 in his backpack. The man made no attempt to pay for the items and was apprehended by store security as he left the store.

Police were contacted and the man was arrested and charged with theft under $5000 and possession of property obtained by a crime under $5000. The 37-year-old Chatham man has been held in custody pending a bail hearing.

Woman Charged with Theft CK16039726

Last night, just before 9:00 p.m. police responded to another shoplifting complaint at Shoppers Drug Mart on St. Clair Street in Chatham. The woman concealed a computer tablet and an audio system in her bag while making no attempt to pay for the merchandise as she exited the store. The woman was apprehended by store security outside in the parking lot.

A 31-year-old Chatham was arrested and charged with theft under $5000 and possession of property obtained by a crime under $5000. She was released pending a future court date of December 9, 2016.

Through investigation, police learned that the woman was also currently wanted on an outstanding warrant from Sarnia. The woman was transported to police headquarters and held in custody pending the arrival of Sarnia Police.

Stolen Vehicle in Wallaceburg CK16039662

Sometime between November 17, 2016 and November 21, 2016 unknown suspect(s) stole a black 1970 Chevrolet Nova from a residence on Water Street.

The vehicle was last seen with Ontario license plates 4H1 457.

Break and Enter in Chatham CK16039645

Sometime between November 20, 2016 at 1:30 a.m. and November 21, 2016 at 7:00 a.m. unknown suspect(s) forced their way into a fenced compound at Arctic Glacier on Park Avenue West causing about $150 damage.

Once inside, the suspect(s) stole three spools of copper wire and scrap copper belonging to Bonvariez Electric. The spools were 18” x 2 feet in size. One spool was black, one was green and the other was white in colour. Total value of the theft has been estimated at $1700.
