Chatham-Kent Daily News Release – 22Feb2017

The Chatham-Kent Police Service responded to 165 calls for service in the last 24 hours. Five people were arrested.

Robbery in Chatham CK17006088

Last night just after 11:00 p.m. an unknown suspect entered Charlie’s Variety Store located at 310 Park Avenue East in Chatham. The suspect demanded cash from the employee while holding a weapon in his hand. A physical altercation ensued during the exchange of money and the employee suffered a cut to his arm which required surgery. The suspect fled the area and police were called. The incident remains under investigation.

Man Charged with Indecent Acts CK17006060

In December, 2016 around 5:30 p.m. the man was in a Chatham store and appeared to be following two teenage girls who were there with their parents. The girls did not know the man. While the parents were shopping in one aisle, the girls went to another. The man then walked down the same aisle where the girls were and exposed his genital area to them. The girls ran off and a store employee was informed of the incident. Police were called, however, the man had left the area before police arrived. His identity and his whereabouts were unknown at that time. Through investigation, the man was identified and located.

The 27-year-old Ridgetown man was arrested and charged with two counts of indecent acts and two counts of indecent exposure to a person under 16 years of age. He has been held in custody pending a bail hearing.

Break and Enter at John McGregor Secondary School CK17006000

Sometime between Friday, February 17, 2017 around 11:00 p.m. and Tuesday, February 21, 2017 at 7:00 a.m. unknown suspect(s) gained entry into four classrooms through the classroom windows and stole electronics. The address of J.M.S.S. is 300 Cecile Avenue in Chatham. All doors and windows of the school had been closed and locked. However, through investigation, it was learned that the locks on the windows were damaged enough by the suspect(s) for the windows to be opened.

Stolen items include: iPads, ‘Apple’ wireless keyboards, laptops and ‘Google Chrome’ books. The value of the electronics is estimated at $25,000.

Update on Bingo Palace Purse Theft CK17004460

As previously released, on February 8, 2017 just before 9:30 p.m. the woman stole a purse while at the Riverview Bingo Palace located at 497 Riverview Drive in Chatham. The purse contained a cell phone, money, identification and personal items. Police reached out to the community for help by releasing a picture of the woman as her identity was unknown.

Last night at approximately 7:15 p.m. the woman was at Value Village in Chatham and recognized by observant citizens who called the police. Police arrived and located the woman still inside Value Village.

Sandra Dye, 54 years, of Earl Drive in Chatham was arrested and charged with theft under $5000 and possession of property obtained by a crime under $5000. She was released with a court date of March 9, 2017
