Traffic Enforcement in Wallaceburg CK17009404

Yesterday at approximately 2:30 p.m. an officer was on general patrol in the area of Earl Street at Murray Street when he saw a dirt bike travelling eastbound through a field. The officer continued to observe the vehicle travel onto Murray Street and then onto Queen Street where it eventually pulled into a driveway. The officer caught up to the vehicle as it was pulling into this driveway and initiated a traffic stop.

When the officer asked to see the man’s driver’s license, along with the ownership and insurance for the dirt bike, the man became argumentative and repeatedly made attempts to walk away from the officer without providing any proper identification for himself or the vehicle. When the man opened up the door to enter his house, the officer arrested him for failing to provide the required identification. Through investigation it was learned that the man was violating a few regulations under the Highway Traffic Act and the Compulsory Automobile Insurance Act.

The 24-year-old Wallaceburg man was arrested and charged with driving while under suspension, failing to identify self, drive motor vehicle – no permit, drive motor vehicle – no plates and failing to surrender insurance card. He was released from custody and required to attend court on April 26, 2017.

Yesterday afternoon around 2:00 p.m. the man attended his wife’s residence in Wheatley. The man and his wife are currently living in separate houses. During his visit, an argument arose and the wife asked him to leave. The man then assaulted his wife and they fell to the ground. Their son heard the commotion from his bedroom and went to help his mom. The man then hit their son. Police were called and attended the residence. No injuries were reported.

The 41-year-old Wheatley man was arrested and charged with two counts of assault. He was transported to the Chatham-Kent Police Service Headquarters where he has been held for a bail hearing.

R.I.D.E. (Reduce Impaired Driving Everywhere) CK17009450

Last night around 11:00 p.m. officers conducted a R.I.D.E. at the Lacroix Street underpass. 150 vehicles were checked and no charges were laid.

Automated Crosswalks

With the recent changes in our Municipality of replacing school crossing guards with automated crosswalks, the Chatham-Kent Police Service Traffic Management Section would like to remind motorists and pedestrians of their responsibilities. When a crosswalk is activated, an offence only occurs when the pedestrian is actually crossing on the roadway not when the lights are activated and no one is crossing. Parents please remind your children when using these crosswalks to make sure all vehicles have stopped for the activated lights before they cross the street. Our children’s safety is everyone’s responsibility.

The offence for drivers who disobey the crosswalk when pedestrians are using it is $180 and 3 demerit points.
