Chatham-Kent Daily News Release – 21Mar2016

The Chatham-Kent Police Service responded to 72 calls for service in the last 24 hours. Ten people were arrested. Four of the ten people were arrested on outstanding warrants.

Man Charged with Domestic Related Offences CK16006835

Yesterday morning, the man and his girlfriend began arguing which escalated into a physical altercation. The man assaulted and threatened the woman while also not allowing her to leave the bathroom to call for help. Luckily, another resident in the home was able to get the man away from the woman.

The pregnant woman was assessed by paramedics as a precaution.

The 29-year-old Wallaceburg man was arrested and charged with assault, utter threats and forcible confinement. He has been held in custody pending a bail hearing.

Pair Charged with Break and Enter CK16006893

This morning around 1:00 a.m. the man and woman attended a building in Chatham in an attempt to locate a specific man. The man forced his way into an apartment only to find out by the homeowner it was the wrong one. The pair then attended another apartment and entered through an unlocked door. As they located who they were looking for, a physical altercation ensued and the victim was assaulted with a piece of wood, golf club and child’s scooter.

Upon police arrival, the pair were observed fleeing the area at a high rate of speed. They parked the truck at the man’s home and continued driving in the man’s second vehicle. Around 1:40 a.m. police located the vehicle, initiated a traffic stop and the pair were taken into custody.

The victim was transported to the Chatham-Kent Health Alliance for medical attention.

The 31-year-old Chatham man has been charged with two counts of break and enter and assault causing bodily harm. The 33-year-old Chatham woman has been charged with break and enter and assault causing bodily harm. Both have been held in custody pending a bail hearing.

Man Charged with Theft CK16005309

On March 3, 2016 police attended ‘Fit for Less’ at the Real Canadian Superstore on St. Clair Street in Chatham in regards to a theft complaint. At this time, the victim reported that while he was exercising, unknown suspect(s) damaged the locker he was using and stole money from his wallet. Another locker was also damaged as well.

Through investigation, police identified the man responsible and he was arrested last night. Allen Palmer, 28 years, of Princess Street in Chatham has been charged with theft under $5000, possession of property obtained by a crime under $5000 and two counts of mischief under $5000. He was released pending a future court date of April 6, 2016.

Motor Vehicle Collisions

CK16006829 – Around 10:30 a.m. yesterday morning, police responded to a two vehicle collision on Wellington Street between Camp Street and Lisgar Street in Wallaceburg. No one was injured. Total damage was estimated at $8000. A 60-year-old Walpole Island woman was charged with an offence contrary to the Highway Traffic Act.

CK16006832 – Shortly before 11:00 a.m. yesterday morning, police responded to a two vehicle collision on Raleigh Street near Cross Street in Chatham. No one was injured. Total damage was estimated at $15,000. An 85-year-old Chatham woman was charged with starting from a stopped position – not in safety.

CK16006860 – Around 4:15 p.m. yesterday afternoon, police responded to a two vehicle collision on Grand Avenue near St. Clair Street in Chatham. No one was injured. Total damage was estimated at $7000. A 20-year-old Chatham woman was charged with making a turn not in safety.
