The Chatham-Kent Police Service responded to 143 calls for service in the last 24 hours. Two people were arrested.
Update: Suspicious Man in Chatham CK16030721
The Chatham-Kent Police Service would like to thank everyone who came forward with information to assist officers in identifying this man and vehicle. Through investigation, police believe the incident from George P Vanier School is not related to the two incidents in the Madera Crescent / Daleview Avenue area.
Police have since identified the man who approached the two young children thanks to a citizen who provided dash cam footage. It appears as though the man was lost and looking for a specific address. The 26-year-old Chatham man has been spoken to by police regarding his suspicious actions. Police do not believe he is a danger to children.
Police are continuing their efforts to identify the suspicious man who entered George P Vanier School. The man was described as white, 5’10”-6’0” in height with brown hair. He was last seen wearing jeans, blue shirt with two-tone sleeves and black/burgundy straight brimmed hat.

Man Arrested on Outstanding Warrant CK16030167
On September 10, 2016 just before 3:00 a.m. police responded to an establishment on St. Clair Street in Chatham in regards to an assault complaint. At this time, police learned that a verbal dispute between two men known to each other resulted in a physical altercation. The man responsible fled the area prior to police arrival.
Yesterday morning, the 40-year-old Chatham man turned himself in to police. He was arrested and charged with assault. He was released pending a future court date of October 3, 2016.
Man Charged with Impaired Driving CK16031505
Last night, around 6:50 p.m. the man was driving northbound on Sandys Street in Chatham when he side swiped a stopped garbage truck. The man initially fled the scene but returned minutes later. Minor damage was observed and no one was injured.
Through investigation, police believed the man was operating his truck while under the influence of alcohol and he was arrested. He was transported to police headquarters for breath tests.
Richard Travis, 68 years, of Willowmac Avenue in Chatham has been charged with having a blood alcohol concentration exceeding the legal limit. He was released pending a future court date of October 4, 2016.
Break and Enter in Chatham CK16031452
Sometime late Sunday night or early Monday morning, unknown suspect(s) entered an unlocked garage on Indian Creek Road East. Once inside, the suspect(s) stole a DeWalt reciprocating saw, mountain bike, beer, two firearms, CO2 BB gun resembling a black .45 caliber handgun and a green khaki Horton Super mag compound cross bow with scope. The first firearm was a Belgium Ranger double barreled side by side hinge break 12 gauge shotgun with a dark walnut stained stock. The second firearm was a Winchester .270 caliber bolt action rifle with brown stock.
The mountain bike and saw were later recovered in tall grass along Indian Creek Road East. Collision Involving Cyclist CK16031440
Yesterday morning around 10:30 a.m. police responded to a collision involving a motor vehicle and cyclist on Grand Avenue West in Chatham.
The 27-year-old Chatham cyclist sustained minor injuries. He was charged with changing lanes not in safety.
Total damage was estimated at $1000.
