Chatham-Kent Daily News Release – 19July2016

The Chatham-Kent Police Service responded to 152 calls for service in the last 24 hours. Eleven people were arrested. Three of the eleven people were arrested on outstanding warrants and two people were arrested for failing to comply with their release conditions.

Update: Stolen Truck from Mitchell’s Bay CK16022253 / CK16022401

On Sunday afternoon, a silver 2007 GMC Sierra pick-up truck and trailer were stolen from a residence in Mitchell’s Bay. The trailer was recovered on Walpole Island and returned to the owner. The truck was located by Walpole Island Police upside down in a ditch.

Yesterday afternoon, a 2000 Dodge truck and trailer were stolen from the area of Water Tower Park in Wallaceburg. Police were immediately contacted and an officer on general patrol observed the truck and trailer travelling westbound on Dufferin Avenue. The officer initiated a traffic stop and four people were found inside the stolen truck. All were arrested. Through investigation, police learned that the two young offenders were also responsible for the theft in Mitchell’s Bay.

A 15-year-old male youth from Brights Grove has been charged with two counts of theft over $5000 and two counts of possession of property obtained by a crime over $5000.

A 16-year-old male youth from Chatham-Kent has been charged with two counts of theft over $5000, two counts of possession of property obtained by a crime over $5000 and failing to comply with his release conditions.

A 21-year-old Walpole Island man has been charged with theft over $5000, possession of property obtained by a crime over $5000 and breach of probation.

A 31-year-old woman of no fixed address has been charged with theft over $5000 and possession of property obtained by a crime over $5000.

All four people have been held in custody pending a bail hearing.

Man Charged with Break and Enter and Assault CK16022428

Shortly after 5:00 p.m. last night, police responded to a disturbance on Harvey Street in Chatham. The man forced his way into the residence and assaulted the male tenant known to him. A pregnant woman in the home witnessed the altercation and attempted to step in. The man pushed her back causing her to fall. The male tenant was able to forcibly remove the man from the residence and police were called. Officers located the man a short distance away from the home and he was arrested. Paramedics attended the scene as a precaution.

The 18-year-old Chatham man has been charged with break and enter and two counts of assault. He has been held in custody pending a bail hearing.

Woman Charged with Obstruct Police CK16022470

Last night, just before midnight, an officer on general patrol initiated a traffic stop on Wellington Street in Wallaceburg. The male driver identified himself with photo identification, however the female passenger only verbally identified herself. The officer suspected the woman was lying and through investigation, determined her true identity and that she was currently wanted on an outstanding warrant for breach of probation.

The 22-year-old Wallaceburg woman was arrested and charged with obstruct police and two counts of breach of probation as she was not to communicate or be within 25 meters of the male driver. She has been held in custody pending a bail hearing.
