The Chatham-Kent Police Service responded to 140 calls for service in the last 24 hours. 5 people were arrested.

Man Arrested after Weapons Call

On June 17th, 2016 Chatham-Kent Police responded to the Ontario Court of Justice at 425 Grand Ave W. Chatham after an employee of the property witnessed a man with a weapon arguing with a woman in the parking lot. The witness believed the weapon to be a handgun. Police were able to locate the male suspect in his vehicle as well as several parties that had arrived with him to the parking lot which were now inside the Court House.

A pellet-handgun made to resemble a real firearm was located inside the suspects’ vehicle. The man was charged with Utter Threats and Possession of a Weapon for a Dangerous Purpose; his associates where released unconditionally after investigation. The man was held in Police custody pending a bail hearing.

Woman Arrested after Family Dispute

On June 17th, 2016 Chatham-Kent Police attended an address in Blenheim for a family dispute. The involved family members; 18 year old daughter and 53 year old mother; have a history of disagreements. The two entered into an argument which resulted in the mother being assaulted and threatened by her daughter. The daughter was located shortly after Police were called and arrested for Assault and Utter Threats. She was released with a court date and several conditions.

Man Apprehended with Mental Health Concerns

On June 17th, 2016 Lambton OPP contacted Chatham-Kent Police to assist in a person welfare-check. A Lambton County woman was receiving odd text messages from a former partner located in Chatham-Kent and contacted the OPP with safety concerns. Due to the content of the messages and the location of the man; Chatham-Kent Police were asked to attend the man’s residence to ascertain his mental health status.

Upon arrival Police were able to conclude the man posed a threat to both himself and others in the community due to a deteriorating mental health situation. The man refused to attend voluntarily for assessment and had to be apprehended under the Mental Health Act for assessment by a qualified Medical Professional. The man was combative during apprehension and a C.E.W. and OC spray had to be utilized. The man was transported to a hospital for assessment after being examined by Paramedics and did not sustain any injuries during his apprehension.

Man Arrested for Aggravated Assault

On June 15th, 2016 Chatham-Kent Police investigated an early morning altercation on King St. Chatham. A man was punched by another man in the head and fell unconscious to ground where he remained unconscious for several minutes. The victim was taken to Public General Hospital where it was determined he was suffering from multiple brain bleeds and airlifted to London Hospital. The victim was unable to provide an immediate statement due to his injuries.

On June 17th, 2016 Chatham-Kent Police attended the suspects Blenheim residence and arrested him for Aggravated Assault. The man was held in custody pending a bail hearing.
