Man Arrested on Outstanding Warrant CK15038118

On the 28th of December a warrant was issued for a Chatham male for theft under. Yesterday evening, police located the male party in the area of Poplar Street in the city of Chatham. The 38-year-old Chatham man was taken into custody on the outstanding warrant and held pending a bail hearing.

Motor Vehicle Collisions

CK16001348– Around 11:30 a.m. yesterday morning, police responded to a three vehicle collision on St. Clair Street in Chatham. There were no injuries reported and a 53-year-old Chatham women was charged with following to close under the Highway Traffic Act.

CK16001351- Around 12:30 p.m. yesterday afternoon, police responded to a two vehicle collision on Woods Street in Chatham. There were no injuries reported and a 21-year-old New Jersey man was charged under the highway traffic act.

The Chatham-Kent Police would like to remind all motorists that the road and weather conditions are not an excuse. Drivers must maintain control of their vehicle at all times. When road conditions begin to deteriorate, drives are urged to slow down and use caution.

Citizen’s Police Academy

The Chatham-Kent Police Service are now accepting applications for this year’s Citizen’s Police Academy. The deadline to apply is February 19, 2016. Interested members of the public are asked to complete an application form accompanied with a copy of photo identification. Forms can be obtained at the front counter of each Service Centre in the Municipality, including the front desk at Police Headquarters or online at http://ckpolice.com/citizens-police-academy/

New Rules at Pedestrian Crossovers and School Crossings

Starting January 1st, 2016, drivers (including cyclist) must stop and yield the whole roadway at:

-Pedestrian Crossovers; and,

– At school crossings where there is a crossing guard displaying a school crossing stop sign.

These rules apply at pedestrian crossovers identified with specific signs, road markings and lights – the new rules do not apply to pedestrian crosswalks at intersections with stop signs or traffic signals, unless a school crossing guard is present.

The new law, park of Marking Ontario’s Road Safer Act, also provides municipal road authorities the ability to install new types of pedestrian crossovers on low speed, low volume roads in addition to the existing crossovers.
