Chatham-Kent Daily News Release – 18April2016

Fatal Motor Vehicle Collision CK16010184

Last night, around 7:15 p.m. emergency crews responded to a single motor vehicle collision on Smoke Line.

A 55-year-old Chatham man was driving his Ford F-150 pick-up truck westbound on Smoke Line when he struck a 4-year-old boy who exited the ditch and began running across the highway. The young boy was playing with friends in the ditch near his home.

The boy sustained life threatening injuries and was transported to the Chatham-Kent Health Alliance. Medical personnel attempted life-saving measures but were unsuccessful.

The driver of the truck was not injured.

The collision remains under investigation by the Chatham-Kent Police Traffic Unit. Anyone with information is asked to contact Constable Jason Herder at 519-355-1092.

Man Charged with Breaching his Release Conditions CK16010217

On December 23, 2015 the man was released from custody in Thunder Bay with conditions to reside at a specific address in Thunder Bay and to obey a daily curfew of 10:00 p.m. to 6:00 a.m.

Last night around midnight, police received information that the man may be at a residence in Chatham. Through investigation, police located the man on Berry Street and he was arrested.

Officers further learned that the man was also wanted on outstanding warrants held by Waterloo Police and Thunder Bay Police.

The 22-year-old Wellesley man has been charged with two counts of failing to comply. He has been held in custody pending a bail hearing.

Man Charged with Domestic Related Offences CK16010085

On Saturday night, the man and his girlfriend were out socializing with friends in Chatham. An argument began which escalated into a physical altercation.

The man assaulted the woman, threw her cell phone on the sidewalk and jumped on her car breaking the windshield.

Yesterday morning, the 30-year-old Chatham was arrested and charged with assault and two counts of mischief under $5000.

He was released with conditions pending a future court date of May 3, 2016.

Break and Enter in Chatham CK16010175

Sometime between March 28 and April 17, unknown suspect(s) entered an apartment on Wilson Avenue.

Once inside, the suspect(s) stole a red and white Milwaukee 12v drill and jewelry.
