Chatham-Kent Daily News Release – 17Feb2017

The Chatham-Kent Police Service responded to 115 calls for service in the last 24 hours. Three people were arrested.

Man Charged with Domestic-Related Offences CK17005421

Yesterday morning around 5:30 a.m. the man started yelling within his house which woke up his wife. When she asked him why he was yelling, they became involved in an argument. The argument escalated into a physical altercation and as a result, the woman ended up on the floor. While on the floor, the man assaulted her, put a piece of material in her mouth and then prevented her from taking the material out of her mouth. Once she was able to get away from the man, he stopped her from leaving the house by standing in front of the door. Police were called and attended the Chatham residence.

Through investigation, the woman disclosed additional incidents where the man threatened her with a weapon and had been assaultive with her on other occasions. The woman sustained non-life threatening injuries as a result of the new and past incidents.

At approximately 7:30 a.m. the 40-year-old Chatham man was arrested and charged with assault, two counts of assault with a weapon, forcible confinement, point firearm and utter threats. He was transported to the courthouse where he was held pending a bail hearing.

Chatham Man Charged with Assault CK17005497

Last night just before 8:00 p.m. the man was talking to a woman he had been in a relationship with on the telephone. When the woman declined to pick the man up from his house and drive him to her house, he got angry.

The man attended the woman’s house on his own, entered through the back door and hit the woman. When the woman asked him to leave, he pushed her, punched out the glass panes within the front door of her residence and then left. Police were called and attended the Chatham residence. Minor injuries were reported by the woman.

At around 8:30 p.m. officers located the man at his residence. The 22-year-old Chatham man was arrested and charged with assault. He received medical treatment for cuts to his hand from damaging the woman’s door. He has been held in custody pending a bail hearing.

Man Charged with Driving While Under Suspension CK17005439

Yesterday morning just after 10:00 a.m. a traffic stop was initiated when an officer on routine patrol observed the man driving a red Ford vehicle on Grand Avenue W. in Chatham. The man is known to police for driving while his license is under suspension. Through investigation, it was learned that the man is unlicensed due to a previous charge of driving with a suspended license and also a family support suspension.

The 46-year-old Chatham man was charged with two counts of driving while under suspension and his vehicle was towed from the scene.
