Man Charged with Failing to Comply CK16003981

On February 11, 2016 the man was released from custody with several conditions. One of those conditions stated that he was to abide by a daily curfew of 10:00 p.m. to 7:00 a.m.

Shortly after 10:00 p.m. last night, an officer on general patrol was parked in the area of Grand Avenue and Churchill Street in Chatham. The man was walking on foot when he approached the officer and began a general conversation. As the man walked away, the officer learned that he was bound by a curfew condition. The officer caught up with the man and he was arrested.

The 34-year-old Walpole Island man has been charged with failing to comply. He has been held in custody pending a bail hearing.

Update: Motor Vehicle Collision in Blenheim CK16003930

As previously released, yesterday morning around 11:50 a.m. emergency crews responded to a collision involving a vehicle and pedestrian on Talbot Street between Parr Street and Marlborough Street.

The pedestrian, originally from Woodstock but now a Chatham resident was transported to the Chatham-Kent Health Alliance with serious injuries. The 39-year-old woman was transferred to London for further medical attention.

The driver, a 94-year-old Blenheim woman was treated and released from hospital.

The Chatham-Kent Police Traffic Unit is investigating the collision. Anyone with information is asked to contact Constable Jason Herder at [email protected] or 519-355-1092.

Man Charged with Driving Related Offences in Wallaceburg CK16003931

Yesterday morning, an officer on general patrol observed the man exit the Walmart parking lot onto McNaughton Avenue then immediately pull into the Southwest Regional Credit Union parking lot upon seeing the cruiser. The officer approached the truck and learned that the man was a suspended driver due to unpaid fines. The man failed to provide valid insurance and was also bound by a condition not to drive any vehicle unless it was equipped with an ignition interlock device, to which the truck was not.

The 40-year-old Wallaceburg man was charged with driving while under suspension, driving a motor vehicle not equipped with an ignition interlock device and failing to surrender an insurance card. He will be required to attend Provincial Offences Court on March 23, 2016.

Fraud Warning CK16003933

Yesterday afternoon, a 57-year-old Wallaceburg resident reported to police that his mother had received a call from a man purporting to be from the Canadian Revenue Agency. The man demanded the woman send him $1000 to cover outstanding taxes or her assets would be frozen. The woman obliged and sent a money order to the man in Florida.

Through investigation, police learned that the phone number associated with the fraudulent call was 647-557-4997, a web based number from Toronto involved in numerous scams.
