The Chatham-Kent Police Service responded to 170 calls for service in the last 24 hours. Seven people were arrested.
Man Charged with Break and Enter CK16028648
On August 31, 2016 at 4:45 a.m. the man entered Hydro One on Charing Cross Road and removed 3 Stihl chain saws and a rigging kit. The man was caught walking away with these items on security cameras. Total value of the theft was estimated at $4000.
Through investigation, the man was identified.
Yesterday, former Hydro One employee, Robert Sandwith, 34 years, of Grandview Avenue in Windsor was arrested and charged with break and enter. He was released pending a future court date of October 11, 2016.
Man Charged with Impaired Driving CK16030936
Last night around 7:00 p.m. police received information about a possible impaired driver in the area of St. Clair Street in Chatham.
An officer on general patrol located the vehicle and through investigation believed the man was operating his vehicle while under the influence of alcohol. The man was arrested and transported to a local police station for breath tests.
While in police custody, the man threatened to burn the investigating’s officer’s home.
Eric Blondeel, 26 years, of Mary Street in Chatham has been charged with having a blood alcohol concentration exceeding the legal limit, uttering threats and driving while under suspension. He was released pending a future court date of September 30, 2016.
Students Charged with being Intoxicated in a Public Place CK16030982
This morning, shortly after 1:00 a.m. a group of intoxicated college students entered Foodland in Ridgetown and began causing a disturbance.
Three men, all 19 years of age, were arrested and charged with being intoxicated in a public place. They were transported to police headquarters where they will be released when sober. A fourth man was arrested, charged and taken home.
Break and Enter CK16030917
Sometime yesterday between 7:30 a.m. and 4:45 p.m. unknown suspect(s) forced their way into a residence on Sixth Line causing about $100 damage. Once inside, the suspect(s) stole various electronics, jewelry and two firearms. The first firearm was a Remington 742 Bushmaster rifle with a wooden stock and 4×12 scope. The second firearm was a Mossberg 243 rifle with original scope and black synthetic stock.
