Chatham-Kent Daily News Release – 16Nov2016

The Chatham-Kent Police Service responded to 128 calls for service in the last 24 hours. Three people were arrested.

Woman Charged with Break and Enter CK16038822

Yesterday morning around 7:40 a.m. police responded to a break and enter in progress on Turquoise Court in Chatham. The homeowners realized someone was in their basement and called police.

Officers located the woman inside the home and she was arrested. Upon being searched incident to arrest, the woman was found to be in possession of stolen items from two previous break and enters earlier in the morning in Chatham. The woman also provided the officer a false name in an attempt to evade arrest on an outstanding warrant for breach of probation.

The 23-year-old woman of no fixed address has been charged with three counts of break and enter, possession of property obtained by a crime under $5000 and obstruct police. She was transported to the court house pending a bail hearing.

Man Charged with Breach of Probation CK16038868

On March 3, 2016 the man entered into a Probation Order with several conditions. One of those conditions stated that he was to obey a daily curfew of 10:00 p.m. and 7:00 a.m.

On November 14, 2016 at 10:30 p.m. police conducted a compliance check at the man’s residence and learned that he was not home.

Yesterday afternoon, police located the man and he was arrested. The 25-year-old Chatham man has been charged with breach of probation. He has been held in custody pending a bail hearing.

Robbery in Chatham CK16038912

Last night around 7:45 p.m. police responded to a disturbance on Colborne Street. Upon arrival, police observed a 22-year-old man lying on the ground. He had just been assaulted by an unknown suspect who fled the area on the man’s black Infinity bicycle valued at $200. The man refused medical treatment from paramedics. The suspect was described as a white man wearing all dark clothing.

Stolen Handguns in Raleigh Township CK16038824

Sometime November 14, 2016 between 9:30 a.m. and 2:40 p.m. unknown suspect(s) entered a residence on Dillon Road. Once inside, the suspect(s) pried open the gun vault and stole five handguns and three cases. Stolen were:

– Rugar Mark II Target semi-automatic .22 caliber

– Browning High Power semi-automatic 9mm

– Smith and Wesson 686 revolver .357 mag

– Ruger P85 semi-automatic 9mm

– Ruger Super Single Six revolver .22 caliber

Total value of the theft has been estimated at $1600.

Theft of Painting in Chatham CK16038907

Sometime yesterday between 11:30 a.m. and 12:15 p.m. unknown suspect(s) stole a large package that had just been delivered to a residence on Phyllis Avenue. The package was stolen from the front porch of the home and was a colourful dog painting called ‘The Savvy Lab’. It’s a one of a kind painting that was purchased from a local fundraiser. The painting is valued at $275.
