Chatham-Kent Daily News Release – 15Nov2016

The Chatham-Kent Police Service responded to 132 calls for service in the last 24 hours. Five people were arrested. Two of the five people were arrested on outstanding warrants.

Robbery in Chatham CK16038737

Yesterday afternoon around 2:30 p.m. a 59-year-old woman was walking on Taylor Avenue in Chatham when an unknown man grabbed her purse from her shoulder. The force from this action caused the woman to fall to the ground. The young white man was wearing a black baseball cap, army pants and black coat. He fled the area on a bicycle and was last seen heading northbound on Taylor Avenue. The woman did not require medical attention.

Theft from Church CK16038703

Yesterday morning, police attended St. Joseph’s Church in Chatham in regards to a theft complaint as unknown suspect(s) had removed approximately 2 feet of downspout copper and lightening rod cable. Damage was estimated at $600.

Through investigation, police identified the man responsible and he was arrested shortly after noon. Christopher Turner, 41 years, of Gray Street in Chatham has been charged with theft under $5000, possession of property obtained by a crime under $5000 and mischief under $5000. He was released pending a future court date of December 6, 2016.

Man Charged with Breach of Probation CK16038714

On June 22, 2016 the man entered into a Probation Order with several conditions. One of those conditions stated that he was to reside at a residence approved by his probation officer.

Yesterday, police received information that the man was living at a Chatham home which was not approved. The 27-year-old man of no fixed address was arrested and charged with breach of probation. He has been held in custody pending a bail hearing.

Man Charged with Mischief CK16038770

Last night, just before 8:00 p.m. police responded to a variety store on Vanier Drive in Chatham in regards to a mischief complaint as the man was attempting to steal a hydro wire attached to the building.

The 39-year-old man of no fixed address was arrested and charged with mischief under $5000. He has been held in custody pending a bail hearing.

Fail to Remain Collision in Wallaceburg CK16038795

Shortly after midnight, police responded to a fail to remain collision at Subway on McNaughton Avenue. A black SUV struck the front of the building causing about $5000 damage. The SUV fled the area prior to police arrival.

Theft of ATV in Wallaceburg CK16038715

Sometime between Sunday afternoon and Monday morning, unknown suspect(s) entered the fenced compound of Wallaceburg 24 Hour Towing on Lowe Street causing approximately $1000.

Once inside, the suspect(s) stole a black 1995 Honda TRX300 Fourtrax 300cc ATV.

Reduce Impaired Driving Everywhere (RIDE) CK16038801

Last night, CKPS and OPP conducted a joint RIDE spot check on Main Street in Ridgetown. Approximately 20 vehicles were stopped with no infractions observed.
