Chatham-Kent Daily News Release – 13Oct2016

The Chatham-Kent Police Service responded to 138 calls for service in the last 24 hours. Three people were arrested.

Update: Serious Motor Vehicle Collision in Chatham CK16033375

On October 3, 2016 at approximately 9:00 p.m. emergency crews responded to a motor vehicle collision involving a car and cyclist at the intersection of Queen Street and Park Avenue West.

The driver of the car, a 37-year-old Chatham man was not physically injured.

The cyclist, a 52-year-old Chatham man sustained life-threatening-injuries and was airlifted to London where he remains in critical condition.

Yesterday, the Chatham-Kent Police Traffic Management Unit completed their investigation and the driver was charged with careless driving.

Man Charged with Impaired Driving CK16034491

Yesterday morning, police received information about a possible impaired driver on Fifth Street in Chatham. Thanks to the detailed and timely information provided by this concerned citizen, an officer on general patrol quickly located the vehicle and a traffic stop was initiated. Through investigation, the officer believed the man was driving his truck while under the influence of alcohol and he was arrested. The man was transported to police headquarters for breath tests.

Colin Stass, 39 years, of Murray Street in Chatham has been charged with having a blood alcohol concentration exceeding the legal limit and driving while under suspension. He was released pending a future court date of October 25, 2016.

The Chatham-Kent Police Service would like to encourage all citizens to report possible impaired drivers by calling police as soon as possible with vehicle descriptors and direction of travel. Drinking and driving is dangerous, criminal and preventable, therefore, we need to work together to keep our streets safe. By calling 911 immediately to report a possible impaired driver, you could be saving someone’s life.

Woman Turns Herself in to Police CK16034484

On June 9, 2016 the woman was released from custody with numerous conditions. One of those conditions stated that she was to reside at a specific address in Chatham.

On June 21, 2016 the woman failed to attend court and a warrant was issued for her arrest.

On July 6, 2016 police learned that the woman was no longer living at that address. Attempts were made to locate her, however when unsuccessful, a warrant was issued for her arrest.

Yesterday morning, the woman attended police headquarters and turned herself in. The 18-year-old Chatham woman was charged with failing to attend court and failing to comply. She was transported to the court house pending a bail hearing.

Man Charged with Being in Possession of Break-In Instruments CK16034582

This morning around 5:30 a.m. police responded to a residence on Patteson Avenue in Chatham in regards to a suspicious man. Police located the man and a backpack which contained screwdrivers, wrenches, a flashlight and rope.

The 31-year-old Chatham man has been charged with being in possession of break-in instruments. He has been held in custody pending a bail hearing.

Motor Vehicle Collision CK16034551

Last night, just before 8:00 p.m. police responded to a two vehicle collision on Bear Line Road in Dover Township.

A tractor pulling wagons was struck by a semi-truck who was attempting to pass as the tractor turned into a driveway.

No one was injured. Damage was estimated at $25,000.

The driver of the tractor, a 37-year-old Dover Township man was charged with making an unsafe turn.
