The Chatham-Kent Police Service responded to 132 calls for service in the last 24 hours. Five people were arrested. Three of the five people were arrested on outstanding warrants and one was arrested for being intoxicated in a public place.
Fatal Motor Vehicle Collision CK16013225
Last night, shortly after 11:00 p.m. emergency crews responded to a single motor vehicle collision on Creek Line between Bearline Road and Winterline Road.
Preliminary investigation has revealed that the man, and lone occupant in the vehicle, was traveling westbound on Creek Line at a high rate of speed when he lost control of his vehicle, left the roadway and struck a tree. The man was pulled from his vehicle by emergency crews as the engine caught fire. The 47-year-old Dover Township man was transported to the Chatham-Kent Health Alliance where life saving measures were unsuccessful.

Traffic Enforcement CK16013017
Earlier this week, an officer from the Traffic Unit observed the man driving on Communication Road. The officer initiated a traffic stop on Maynard Line and confirmed that the man was prohibited from driving.
The 55-year-old Blenheim man was charged with driving while disqualified. His vehicle was towed from the scene and impounded for 45 days. He will be required to attend court on July 13, 2016.
Youth Charged with Stealing a Car CK16013159
Yesterday afternoon around 1:45 p.m. the youth removed a set of keys from his teacher’s purse. The youth didn’t know which car was hers so he hid behind a tree and watched as she approached her vehicle in the parking lot. When the teacher believed she left her keys in the classroom, she re-entered the school. At this time, the youth entered her car and drove away. Luckily, he was quickly stopped at the end of the street by school officials and police were called.
The 12-year-old Chatham youth was arrested and charged with theft of motor vehicle. There was no damage to the vehicle and no one was injured. He has been held in custody pending a bail hearing.
Break and Enter in Chatham CK16013232
This morning, around 1:35 a.m. unknown suspect(s) smashed the front door window of Easyhome on St. Clair Street. Two gaming systems valued at $1000 were stolen.

Theft in Howard Township CK16013129
On May 5, 2016 unknown suspect(s) stole a 1984 Yamaha 4-wheeler, chainsaw and tank of gas from a residence on River Line.

Theft of Copper Wire CK16013153
Sometime over the last couple days, unknown suspect(s) entered unlocked trailers at Arctic Glacier on Park Avenue West in Chatham. Approximately $8000 worth of copper wiring from inside refrigeration units were stolen.

Sometime yesterday between 10:00 a.m. and 4:00 p.m. unknown suspect(s) entered an unlocked residence on Ebenezer Street and a quantity of clothing was stolen.
