Chatham-Kent Daily News Release – 13July2016

Man Charged with Theft Under $5000 and Possession of Property Obtained by Crime Under $5000 – CK16021556

In the evening of July 12th, 2016, a male attended Sears, located at 130 King Street East, in Chatham. He proceeded to the change rooms with two articles of clothing and upon return, he had concealed one of the items and returned the other. The male then proceeded to the exit without making any attempt to pay for the concealed article of clothing. This was witnesses by a Loss Prevention Officer and the male party was subsequently arrested, and was found to be in possession of the stolen item. Police attended the Sears location and released the male on an Appearance Notice with a future court date. A 27 year-old Chatham man is charged with one count of Theft Under $5000, as well as one count of Possession of Property Obtained by Crime Under $5000.

Break and Enter to Vacant Commercial Building – CK16021495

Sometime overnight between July 11th and July 12th, 2016, a vacant commercial building was entered on Keil Dr. South, in Chatham. Entry was gained through a panel in the roof and the suspects were able to remove several TVs through the back door. Police located rope and a harness within the building which are believed to have been used to rappel down from the roof.

Break and Enter to Vacant Residence – CK16021564

Sometime between July 11th and July 12th, 2016, unknown suspects gained entry to a newly built vacant residential home on College Street, in Chatham. Entry was gained through a basement window and once inside, the suspects took approximately $75 worth of copper piping.

Structure Fire in Dover Township – CK16021584

Police are investigating a residential fire in Dover Township which occurred in the evening of July 12th, 2016. There were no injuries in relation to this fire. Damage is estimated at $500,000. Fire crews remained on scene this morning and the fire is currently under investigation by Chatham-Kent Fire and Emergency Services and the Chatham-Kent Police Service.

On July 8th, 2016 members of Chatham-Kent Police Intelligence Unit with the assistance of the London Police Service Guns and Drugs Unit and Chatham-Kent Uniform Branch completed a lengthy surveillance investigation regarding the importation of cocaine into the Municipality of Chatham-Kent.

As a result of the operation a 33-year old Chatham man and a 32-year old Windsor man were arrested and charged with Possession for the Purpose of Trafficking. The amount of cocaine seized has an estimated street value of $55,000 (Based on RCMP – GTADS – TIC – 2009-04-23).

The 33-year old man, who is currently before the Courts on significant Possession for the Purpose of Trafficking with cocaine and cannabis marihuana charges, was further charged with two counts of Possession of a Controlled Substance (cocaine and cannabis resin) as well as 6 counts of Breach of Recognizance.
