Man Charged with Resist Arrest CK16030390

This morning, just before 2:00 a.m. police observed a man riding a bicycle west bound on King Street in Chatham. The officer stopped the man for riding on the sidewalk. The officer asked him to step off the bicycle as it was previously reported stolen from a residence in Dresden. As the officer placed the man under arrest, he pulled away and refused to cooperate with the officer. The man began running but was quickly taken into custody following a short foot chase.

The 20-year-old man has been charged with possession of property obtained by a crime under $5000 and resist arrest. He has been held in custody pending a bail hearing.

Man Charged with Dangerous Operation of a Motor Vehicle CK16030398

Around 3:00 a.m. this morning police attempted to initiate a traffic stop in the area of Harvey Street and Lacroix Street in Chatham. The man failed to stop for police and drove through two stop signs and one red light. He continued driving at a high rate of speed, therefore in the interest of public safety, the officer discontinued pursing the man and strategically began following him from a distance. As the man drove onto the 401, his speed drastically decreased and police were able to conduct a traffic stop safely. Through investigation, the man was found to be in possession of marijuana.

Anthony Mills, 28 years, of Glencairn Crescent in Toronto has been charged with dangerous operation of a motor vehicle, flight while pursued by peace officer and drug possession. He has been released pending a future court date of October 4, 2016.
