Chatham-Kent Daily News Release – 12July2016

Vehicle Fire on Eighth Line

On July 11th, 2016 Chatham-Kent Police and Fire units responded to Eighth Line near Bloomfield Road for a motor vehicle fire. A 38 year old Chatham man was driving his 2015 Kia when he started to experience engine trouble. The man pulled the vehicle over and popped the hood in an attempt to visually locate the issue. At this time the front end of the vehicle ignited and quickly became fully engulfed.

Fire personnel were able to extinguish the blaze quickly and the vehicle was towed from the scene. There were no injuries and damage to the vehicle is estimated at $35,000.

Break and Enter at St. Clair College

On July 11th, 2016 Chatham-Kent Police attended St. Clair College Thames Campus to investigate a break and enter and theft of copper. Through investigation is was determined that on July 10th, 2016 a 24 year old Chatham man had cut a hole in an exterior fence and removed an amount of copper pipe. The man was located and arrested by Chatham-Kent Police on July 11th. He was released on conditions with a future court date.

L.L.A. Infraction in Wallaceburg

On July 12th, 2016 at approximately 12:15am a member of the Chatham-Kent Police was on patrol in Wallaceburg when she discovered a couple (male/female) arguing. While speaking with the couple and investigating the extent of their argument the man became belligerent with Police. More members of the Chatham-Kent Police attended and the man was given several chances to co-operate with Police while the domestic incident was investigated; he chose to be aggressive and belligerent instead. As a result the man was arrested for being intoxicated in a public place pursuant to the Ontario Liquor License Act and held at Chatham-Kent Police Headquarters until sober.

Single Motor Vehicle Collision

On July 11th, 2016 at approximately 11:45pm a 26 year old Blenheim man was driving on Kent Bridge Rd. when his truck left the road. The man was able to escape the collision without injury and his truck suffered approximately $15,000 in damages and had to be towed from the scene. The man was charged under the H.T.A.
