The Chatham-Kent Police Service responded to 138 calls for service in the last 24 hours. Seven people were arrested. Two people were arrested on outstanding warrants and one person was arrested for being intoxicated in a public place.
Teen Charged with Impaired Driving CK17001295
Last night, shortly after 6:00 p.m. police responded to a single motor vehicle collision on Hill Road. The driver lost control of his vehicle, left the roadway and struck a hydro pole.
Through investigation, police suspected the teen was driving while under the influence of alcohol. A roadside test was administered and he failed. The youth was arrested and transported to police headquarters for further breath tests.
The 17-year-old Kent Bridge youth has been charged with having a blood alcohol concentration exceeding the legal limit, drinking underage and driving as a young driver with a blood alcohol concentration above zero. He was released to a parent pending a future court date of January 23, 2017.
Youth Charged with Uttering Threats CK17001312
Last night, police responded to a disturbance at a residence in Dover Township.
Through investigation, police learned that the youth had threatened another resident, punched a hole in a wall, kicked a hole in a wall and broke a game table.
The 14-year-old youth was arrested and charged with uttering threats and mischief under $5000. He has been held in custody pending a bail hearing.
Man Charged with Failing to Comply CK17001317
On January 9, 2017 the man was released from custody with several conditions. One of those conditions stated that he was to reside at a specific address in Chatham and to notify police of any change in address within 24 hours.
Last night, police responded to a report of a suspicious man in the area of Beth Crescent in Chatham. Through investigation, police located the man on Timmins Crescent and learned that he was no longer living at his designated address.
The 30-year-old man of no fixed address was arrested. Upon being searched incident to arrest, he was found to be in possession of pills and liquid filled syringe.
He had been charged with failing to comply and three counts of drug possession. He has been held in custody pending a bail hearing.
Motor Vehicle Collision CK17001238
Yesterday morning, around 9:45 a.m. emergency crews responded to a single motor vehicle collision on Grande River Line between Winterline Road and Westgate Walk. The driver lost control of his vehicle, left the roadway and struck a hydro pole.
He was transported to the Chatham-Kent Health Alliance for medical attention of non-life threatening injuries.
Total damage was estimated at $5000.
The 18-year-old Chatham man was charged with careless driving.
