The Chatham-Kent Police Service responded to 156 calls for service in the last 24 hours. Eight people were arrested.
Man Charged with Break and Enter CK16025737
Yesterday morning, police responded to Club Lentinas on National Road in Chatham in regards to a break and enter. Through investigation, police identified the man responsible for stealing approximately $500 worth of liquor and causing $1000 damage to the building. Yesterday afternoon, police located the man and he was arrested.
The 27-year-old Chatham man has been charged with break and enter and failing to comply with his curfew. He has been held in custody pending a bail hearing.
Man Charged with Committing Indecent Acts in Cemetery CK16022127
On December 26, 2015 around 12:00 p.m. the man was found pleasuring himself in a cemetery on Owen Road near Mitchell’s Bay by a woman walking her dog. The man fled the area and police were unable to locate him. On July 16, 2016 shortly after 5:00 p.m. the same man was observed walking through the cemetery fully nude.
Through investigation, police identified the man and last night he was arrested. The 60-year-old Wallaceburg man has been charged with two counts of committing an indecent act. He was released pending a future court date of September 7, 2016.
Woman Charged with Assault while at Hospital CK16025805
Last night, police responded to the Chatham-Kent Health Alliance, Emergency Department in regards to a woman being aggressive towards staff. The woman there to be treated, spit at a nurse and threw a chair towards another nurse.
The 26-year-old Lakeshore woman was arrested and charged with assault and assault with a weapon. She was released pending a future court date of September 14, 2016 and turned over to London Police Service as they had an outstanding warrant for her arrest.
Police Respond to Shoplifting Incident in Chatham CK16025757
Yesterday morning, the man attended Sears at the Downtown Chatham Centre and grabbed a pair of white K-Swiss running shoes valued at $90. The man exited the store without making an attempt to pay for the shoes. He was apprehended by loss prevention officers and detained until police arrived.
William Hawgood, 29 years, of Barthe Street in Chatham was arrested and charged with theft under $5000 and possession of property obtained by a crime under $5000. He was released pending a future court date of August 30, 2016.
Man Arrested on Outstanding Warrant in Wallaceburg CK16025809
On July 17, 2016 police responded to an assault complaint on Hebert Street. At this time, the victim reported that he had been punched by a man known to him during a gathering at his residence. The man fled on foot prior to police arrival, therefore a warrant for his arrest was issued.
Last night, police located the man at Glen Mickle Park and he was arrested. The 26-year-old Walpole Island man has been charged with assault. He was released pending a future court date of September 7, 2016.
Traffic Enforcement CK16025788
Yesterday afternoon, police conducted speed enforcement on McNaughton Avenue East in Chatham.
Fourteen motorists were stopped and charged with speeding.
The Chatham-Kent Police Services reminds all drivers to slow down and that if convicted you may receive demerit points in addition to a fine, depending on how fast you were driving over the posted speed limit.
