Chatham-Kent Daily News Release – 10May2016

The Chatham-Kent Police Service responded to 147 calls for service in the last 24 hours. Five people were arrested.

Man Charged with Drug and Property Related Offences CK16012783

As previously reported, on April 25, 2016 members of the Chatham-Kent Police Intelligence Section executed a Controlled Drugs and Substances Act warrant at a residence on West Street in Chatham during which fentanyl residue, hydromorphone and packaging material were seized. During this investigation, a locked safe and stolen mountain bike were also located and seized.

On April 26, 2016 police executed a warrant on the safe and a quantity of methamphetamine, cocaine, methadone, clonazepam and large amount of cash was seized. Total street value of the drugs found inside the safe was estimated at over $30,000.

On May 3, 2016 a 21-year-old Chatham man was arrested and charged with four counts of drug possession for the purposes of trafficking.

Yesterday, the second man wanted in connection with this investigation was arrested in Wallaceburg. The 32-year-old Chatham man has been charged with numerous drug and property related offences along with failing to comply with his release conditions. He has been held in custody pending a bail hearing.

Man Charged with Assault CK16012766

Yesterday morning, the man attended a residence in Chatham to speak with his ex-girlfriend. An argument began between the man, his ex-girlfriend and the homeowner. The man was asked to leave several times but refused to do so. The man overpowered the homeowner, entered the home and assaulted her. The man fled the area prior to police arrival.

Just before 5:00 p.m. police observed the man entering a residence on Raleigh Street. The man refused to surrender himself to police so the residence was immediately contained while a Feeney warrant was obtained. At 6:20 p.m. while waiting for judicial authorization to enter the home, the man exited the apartment and surrendered himself to police. The 36-year-old Chatham man was arrested and charged with break and enter and assault. He has been held in custody pending a bail hearing.

Man Charged with Driving while Disqualified CK16012826

Last night, just before 7:00 p.m. an officer on general patrol observed the man driving west bound on King Street in Chatham. The officer recognized the man and believed that he was currently prohibited from driving. The officer initiated a traffic stop on Adelaide Street and confirmed that the man was serving a one year driving prohibition with an expiry date of August 3, 2016. The plates on the vehicle were also not registered.

Tristan Kovacs, 19 years, of Charteris Street in Chatham was charged with driving while disqualified. His license plates were seized and his vehicle was impounded for 45 days. He was released pending a future court date of May 31, 2016.

Break and Enter in Chatham CK16012750

Sometime between May 4 and May 9, unknown suspect(s) entered a home under construction on Foster Street. Once inside, the suspect(s) stole two interior doors, one exterior door and seven 2” by 4” by 8’ pieces of wood. Total value of the theft was estimated at $200.
