The Chatham-Kent Police Service responded to 122 calls for service in the last 24 hours. Two people were arrested.
Man Charged with Theft CK17007711
In February 2017, the man entered Walmart located at 881 St. Clair Street in Chatham. He placed a pair of Sony Bass headphones, a pair of JBL headphones, razor blades and meat within his shopping cart. The man did not attend any of the checkouts, making no attempt to pay for items he had in the cart. Instead he exited the store through an alarmed door used for emergencies only and the alarm sounded. Police were called, but were unable to locate the man.
Through investigation, the man’s identity was learned and a warrant was issued for his arrest. The estimated value of stolen items was $623.
Early this morning around 3:00 a.m. an officer on general patrol in the area of Raleigh Street and Richmond Street in Chatham observed the man. The 30-year-old Chatham man was arrested and charged with theft under $5000 and possession of property obtained by a crime under $5000. He has been held in custody pending a bail hearing.
Man Charged with Failing to Comply CK17008092
In April 2016, the man was released from custody. One of his conditions was not to be within 50 meters of a certain address in Chatham.
Last night around 7:30 p.m. the man attended the exact address where he is on conditions not to be.
The 26-year-old Charing Cross man was arrested and charged with failing to comply. He has been held pending a bail hearing.
Break and Enter in Jeannette’s Creek CK17008042
Sometime overnight between Wednesday, March 8, 2017 and Thursday, March 9, 2017 unknown suspect(s) entered a barn on Tecumseh Line and removed a variety of power tools. Estimated value of stolen tools is $750.
