Chatham-Kent Daily News Release – 10Aug2016

The Chatham-Kent Police Service responded to 143 calls for service in the last 24 hours. Six people were arrested.

Update: Stolen Vehicle Recovered and Man Charged CK16025466 / CK16025500

Yesterday morning, police responded to a gas drive off at the Pioneer Gas Bar on Richmond Street in Chatham. The man pumped $40 worth of gas and drove away in a stolen blue Jeep Liberty from Windsor without making any attempt to pay.

Yesterday afternoon, the stolen vehicle was observed on Prince Albert Road and a traffic stop was initiated. The man refused to exit the vehicle or show the officers his hands, therefore, the window was broken and he was removed from the Jeep. The man was arrested and transported to hospital for medical attention of minor injuries where he was treated and released.

The 46-year-old man of no fixed address has been charged with theft under $5000 and possession of property obtained by a crime over $5000. He has also been charged with dangerous operation of a motor vehicle, flight while pursued by peace officer, assault peace officer, resist arrest and breach of probation stemming from an incident with police on August 3, 2016. He has been held in custody pending a bail hearing.

Youths Arrested in Stolen Minivan CK16025551

Last night, shortly after 8:00 p.m. police received a traffic complaint about a brown minivan in Chatham. Officers located the vehicle and initiated a traffic stop on Park Street.

Through investigation, police learned that the vehicle was stolen from Sarnia. The driver, a 15-year-old male youth and his passenger, a 12-year-old male youth, both from Sarnia, were arrested and charged with theft of motor vehicle and possession of property obtained by a crime under $5000. They were released pending a future court date of August 29, 2016 and turned over to Sarnia Police Service as they were both wanted on outstanding warrants.

Man Charged with Failing to Comply CK16025498

Yesterday afternoon, police were called regarding an intoxicated man on a public bus who was yelling and harassing other passengers. Officers located the bus on McNaughton Avenue East in Chatham and escorted the man off the bus. He was arrested for being intoxicated in a public place.

Through investigation, police learned that he was on conditions not to consume alcohol. The 45-year-old man of no fixed address has been charged with failing to comply and two counts of breach of probation. He has been held in custody pending a bail hearing.

Man Charged with Domestic Related Offences CK16025488

Yesterday morning, a dispute began between the man and his ex-girlfriend concerning the custody of their infant child. The man assaulted the woman and damaged a headlight on her vehicle.

Yesterday afternoon, police located the man and he was arrested. The 21-year-old Harwich Township man has been charged with assault and mischief under $5000. He has been held in custody pending a bail hearing.

Woman Arrested on Outstanding Warrants in Wallaceburg CK16025538

Last night, an officer on general patrol in the Westcourt Boulevard area observed the woman running through the complex into an unlocked unit in an attempt to evade police.

The homeowner, allowed police to enter his home and the woman was arrested on outstanding warrants for failing to comply.

The 22-year-old Wallaceburg woman was additionally charged for entering the man’s home. She has been held in custody pending a bail hearing.
